Contemplating microblading!

Carrie, on March 21, 2018 at 8:49 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 15
I’m getting married in October and I know that there’s a bit of a healing process but I want to know your honest opinions and thoughts!
Did you like it?
Where did you go to get it done?
How expensive was it?

The one i was looking into was $450 and she does in two sessions, I looked into it too late in the game (Febuary) and she said she needed 4-6 weeks in between each session and that they would be healed 6-8 weeks. unfortunately she was booked up to April so she wasn't able to fit me in that I wouldn't have dark and crusty eyebrows for the wedding day

I’ve had both microblading and powder brows done. Both were done in NYC with experienced artists (hundreds of positive reviews for both). Do a TON of research on artists and study before and after pictures VERY closely before you book with anyone.

    Microblading:
    - Very natural. It’s also referred to as hair strokes, we’re talking very thin individual lines mimicking eyebrow hairs.
    - Longer, more complex healing process. You can’t get your brows wet for 2 weeks - showering with saran wrap taped to your face is an interesting experience.
    - Scabbing takes a while. Expect to look like a leopard for at least a few days.
    - If you fill in your brows with makeup everyday, you’ll likely continue filling in your brows after getting microblading done. It’s not meant to replace makeup.
    - First touch-up should be done within 3 months, touch-ups after that are every 6-12 months depending on lifestyle (sweat makes them fade faster).

    Powder Brows:
    - Shorter healing time. A week to a week and a half. You can get them wet, just don’t let the shower stream hit them directly.
    - This is more for replacing makeup. Color is deposited as small dots filling in the entire eyebrow shape. You can dial up the intensity with makeup, but in general it shouldn’t be needed anymore.
    - Minimal scabbing.
    - First touch-up is after 6 weeks. Next touch-up won’t be for a year to a year and a half.

Hope that helps! I was disappointed with microblading but am obsessed with powder brows. My goal was to stop filling my brows in everyday, though.

    Here you go!
    Top: natural brows
Middle: microbladed brows 3 months healed after touch-up
Bottom: powder brows a month healed after touch-up

The bottom photo is basically exactly what I was doing with makeup everyday for years- now I don’t have to!

I had microblading done December 28 2016. I saw pictures of the work the girl had done and it was great. But every face is different. I have a very high tolerance for pain and it was a pretty painful experience (only because the proper numbing cream was not used) but I toughed through it. I kept having to tell her what to fix. Keep in mind I am a freak over the way my brows look. I mean it is a tattoo ON YOUR FACE basically. Needless to say I went home crying. It looked worse that night because of all of the swelling. After a couple of days, the swelling had gone down and I tolerated the way my brows looked. There really wasn’t much I could do about it. Nearing the end of the scabbing process I started to pick the scabs off, hoping that the ink would fade with it. After that I continued to draw and fill my brows in. There is still color splotches (when it should be strokes) in my brows but nothing too noticeable. It’s been a little over a year, I never got in touch with her to do my touch up because I didn’t not want her touching my brows again even though I paid for it.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure it’s what you really want. I mean, it’s your face. If there happens to be a problem like mine (lord willing nothing like that will happen to anyone, ever) there’s not much time to fix it.

I would go with the PP and do the powder brow. I would actually love to try that myself.

Thank you!! I’m SO sorry about your microblading experience. I hated the shape of my microbladed brows and was so depressed after they healed. And I paid more for those than I did for the powder brows!!
Definitely give powder brows a shot. I was told to exfoliate the hell out of them to remove as much microblading ink as possible before my appt (wasn’t too hard, they’d already faded a LOT) and we had two pencil shaping consultations before we did the actual procedure. I’m totally OCD about it too, the shaping appts put my mind at ease!

I had microblading done almost 18 months ago. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made (beauty wise anyway). My eyebrows were way too far apart from too much plucking in the 90s and they were super patchy in general. I couldn’t leave the house without powdering them on. Now I’m good to go at any time. A girl where I live in WI did them, she’s absolutely amazing, she takes a lot of continuing education and also is now teaching it. She does measuring and all kinds of prep to make sure they will be perfectly shaped. If you’re going to get it done make sure you look at a LOT of the person’s work as some people really are not good at it. I’d also go to someone who’s been doing it awhile and not just starting out. It’s expensive (well for me) but it’s sooooo worth it!

I love the powder brows! I have VERY dark brows with thick hairs and have to fill in daily. So frustrating!! I’m in NY - would you be willing to share the vendor you used?

Of course! I actually went to Yorktown in Westchester for the powder brows. Sandra Permanent Makeup (that's her name on Instagram, too). Sandra's a small business owner and is SUCH a doll. She also does microblading, and I'm sure she does a phenomenal job on that, but I can't say enough good things about how she corrected my brows with powder brows!

I love my microblading! It was the best purchase ever! Mine was $300 for the first appointment and $100 for the touch up. There is a 4-6 week heal time between appointments and then with good after care another 4 weeks of healing. This was right after my first appointment.

It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done! It does hurt like hell, but It only takes a few days for them to heal. I think you do a touch up around a month or so, so you definitely have time!
