Convertible hairstyles- is there such a thing?

Patricia, on April 13, 2011 at 6:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 10

Ok I feel pretty foolish asking, but.. is there such thing as a convertible hairstyle that would convert from an updo to halfup/down? Would my stylist kill me or look at me like I'm nuts (which is probably half true, lol) if I asked? I'll be wearing a veil w/detachable tiara and have yet to do my hair trial and am clueless about fashion/beauty.

    Here's a fuzzy, horrendous pic of me w/messy hair in the sample version of my dress so you can see what I'm trying to match the hairstyle with. My hair is a little longer now, cut in two layers (but still just as messy, loL). Wedding will be at a Victorian resort set on a lake, so I'm trying to go with a slightly vintage/romantic/soft look. Oh yeah and in case you can't tell, I'm very indecisive & would love to have the best of both hairstyles which is why I ask if it's possible to have both.

    I bought a few wedding hairstyle magazines this weekend and one suggested doing this. It said to have your stylist do a half up/half down style with color X pins. Then finish the entire hair updo with color Y pins. After the ceremony have a BM remove the color Y pins and viola!

    I had thought of doing the same and I had planned on doing the same as MelloJean. I think it'll be easier to convert a half-up/half-down into a total updo better than the other way around.

    I ended up doing an all updo, a side messy bun because it was SUPER windy and rainny on my wedding day, so I just decided to pull it all up instead of doing a half side pony and then pulling it up.

    I like the idea about the pins. That's sounds pretty easy to do, and a good hairstylist should be able to do it. You should find an up do that you like and explain to the stylist your idea. You could always do a half pony, curl it and pin those to your head. Then curl the hair that is still down, then pin those to your head underneath the other curls. Kind of blend them at the seam so it's not so obvious. Just remember what pins are what! Or just undo them all but leave the pony tail holder in. Maybe find a pretty barrette to cover the hair tie.

    Thank you everyone for the tips.@Mello Jean, I love how you had your hair done! On further thought, it makes more sense for me to have my hair down and then up for the reception when I might be feeling hot from dancing/socializing. My only concern is time since we will only have a half hour between our ceremony & cocktail hour- did it take a long time to go from a half-updo to an updo? Was it easy enough for a bridesmaid to arrange?

    @Amy, that's a really clever idea!

    @Christina, that's a really pretty hairstyle that went from up to down. Thank you for sharing!

    My sister did it for me. She is a hairstylist. It only took her maybe 5 mins.
