Cookie Table? (PITTSBURGH BRIDES)

Michelle, on November 3, 2017 at 10:18 PM Posted in Pennsylvania Planning 0 20

This is a very localized question. Pittsburgh area brides... we all know about the cookie table, but how are you planning? I plan on making and freezing a couple dozen of my own, but will family offer? I know they expect one, and I obviously don't want to ask them and be rude...

I actually just ordered my cookies. I am having them made by a woman that does them professionally. I am having around 300 people at my wedding and need about 100 dozen cookies. That is just way too much work to try to do myself or ask of my family.

I've only ever been to one Pittsburgh wedding (I'm from Philly). They had cookies brought in by the bakery that did the cake.

They also had these awesome boxes the bakery brought in that perfectly fit the cookies and had a separator so the different types didn't touch.

Idk if I'd ever eat homemade cookies someone brought in that was frozen and defrosted.

Just went to a wedding last month for my cousin who's husband is from Pittsburg. (Wedding outside of philly) and family members made the cookies. My mom and I made a bunch. But my cousin asked us. I don't know if that is customary or not. She had about 125 people.

I am from Pittsburgh living in Alaska now. We are doing a cookie table as my Pgh family will want it! We are only having 20 guests and my aunt is flying up a bit early and we are baking the day before.

This is why I specifically stated "Pittsburgh brides"... literally everyone and their grandmother bakes cookies in advance and freezes them.

Thank you to the people that were ACTUALLY helpful Smiley smile

I'm from Pittsburgh and I had never heard of the cookie table until my MIL brought it up. We had our cake done by Oakmont bakery and ordered our cookies there as well.

There is no regional post. When you post here everyone sees it.

At all my relatives' weddings, family made the cookies, but at a friend's wedding, she bought them from a baker.

@mrsmack I love Oakmont bakery! Anyone here tried Bethel Bakery for cakes/cupcakes?

I don't see how people weren't being helpful...?

I think a combination of homemade and bakery made would be best. Less stress on loved ones, and you can order a variety.

Although I'm not doing one, I lived in Youngstown for years and "The Cookie Table" is everything there as well. I've always known people to make and freeze them as well.

I am originally from Pittsburgh but don't live there...all my family does though and pretty much every wedding in our family was in Pittsburgh and my aunts (3) made the cookies ahead of time and froze them. I'm in CT but will have the cookie table and they have graciously offered to bake them for me as well. Good luck!

Not a Pittsburgh bride but just genuinely curious about the tradition of a cookie table since I've never heard of it! I'm assuming it's literally just an assortment of cookies?

I'm not from Pittsburgh but wish I were so I can do a cookie table. I do bake dozens of cookies for Christmas though. I prefer to bake close to the time of eating but find, cookies well-sealed, stay fresh a pretty long time. I do prefer to make cookie dough ahead and freeze it to bake just before holidays.

It's there a relative that had a cookie table that you can ask about how they planned? Can you ask advice from your mom or an aunt, they might volunteer to organize bakers for you.

@Melinda yup, it's a tradition! It's literally just a giant table with an assortment of cookies (usually baked by the families) and/or brought in some bakeries.

@kristin again... I didn't say that??? Are we reading the same things? Also I'm not mad... just extremely frustrated that I just wanted input on this. And considering why everyone flagged and reported me on another post for just telling people to be nice, I'm not surprised this is happening again. This forum is such a toxic place.
