Cookie Tables!! -- Who's having one?

We'llAlwaysHaveParis, on March 7, 2013 at 1:39 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 31

Being from Pittsburgh, I must have a cookie table at my wedding. It's "traaaaaadition"

Anyway, what kind of cookies do you like?

On my list I have

sugar cookies (eiffel tower, of course)

kiss cookies (with the hershey kiss)

Russian Tea Cakes

Chocolate Chip (those are mainly for me)

Pizelles (or however you spell them)

Buckeyes

Lady Locks

AND

mini cupcakes in a variety of flavors

chocolate covered strawberries (decorated to look like baseballs - that's for FH)

chocolate dipped and decorated pretzel rods (my cousin is making these for free)

Also, how many cookies should I plan on per person for the night. Most websites say 3 or 4. How many cookies would you eat a wedding reception? 3 or 4 per person doesn't seem like many to me, but maybe it is.

We're having a cocktail hour with apps (cookies wouldn't "have" to be out for this, I guess)

Dinner Buffet

Wedding Cake

And, if you've never heard of this fabulous tradition - an image

Jaclyn, that totally made me laugh. I have never seen milk at a cookie table, but it makes perfect sense. LOL

Who makes the cookies? I read a great article about this group of grandmothers who gets together and does this whenever there is a wedding in any of their families and they all just have their special one that they make. I had thought about doing it based on that article - I didn't realize it was a regional tradition. However, my venue does a dessert buffet with the cake - eclairs and petit fours and cream puffs, plus I might do a little candy buffet, so I think I will skip it.

I say make more and provide little bags so they can take them home.

Milk is a great idea. I had this pics pinned since FH is a huge milk drinker. I will probably have to make a special request for him to get some milk when we do the cake.

I am sooooooooooo happy FH is not wanting this!! The wedding is Philly and we do not do cookie tables here, thank God. We did one at my bro's wedding since his FW at the time was from the burgh. Ugh what a nightmare making those damn cookies lol

I think 2-3 cookie per person is fine. You have a lot of food period so people may not fill up on cookies.

I love the having milk with the cookies idea!!

Families generally make the cookies. I plan to buy a bunch from local bakeries and fill in with family / friends creations. Nobody I know has the time to put hours and hours into baking which is exactly what it takes.

I did ask my sister to make the pizelles though.

I don't know if we'll do bags or not. Some people do, some don't.

    Me!!!

I didn't know the cookie table wasn't standard at all weddings until I moved out of state.

My grandmother used to do all the baking, but she passed years ago and one of my cousins is now the "master baker" of the family. I can't wait for my cookie table!

We always have a ton of cookies so that all the guests are able to take some home. My favorite are "peaches". I don't know if this is what they're really called, but it's a cookie shaped like a peach, rolled in yellow and orange sugar for that peachy glow and it's filled with something that includes peach schnapps.

@Lucky Me - the Pink Champagne Cupcakery does cookie trays. If their pricing is anything like their wedding cake pricing - it's cheap.

They're making my wedding cake for $82. How do you like them apples? LOL I booked them before they come to their senses.

I never saw it at a PA (eastern side) wedding before. BUT my mom is doing that for my bridal shower. To me, the number I'd eat at a wedding would depend on the flavor of cake and the flavor of cookies offered. I'm weird and I really dont like chocolate. So if the cake was chocolate I might be more inclined to eat more non chocolate cookies. Otherwise, probably not more than like 2 or 3.

LOL - I saw the PCC's post on FB. "Hey Matt. . ."

FH loves the salted caramel too. I haven't tried it yet. I don't need another vice.

I'm having a cookie table, as I'm from NE Ohio!! And I don't 3 or 4 cookies per person is enough. Personally, I could easily eat 10. Especially if I don't like the favor of the cake.
