Cookies instead of cake?

soon2BmrsH, on May 14, 2017 at 4:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

FH and I are thinking about having cookies and carmel instead of traditional wedding cake. We are having a country church wedding and the reception will be at lunch time (morning wedding). We are doing a lot of non traditional things at the ceremony and reception. We will still have a grooms cake (a non traditional layered cake and pudding that my FH requested) and a small bride and groom cake for looks. We would have several cookie options.

Oh reception venue is low-key.

Any thoughts? Anybody seen this type of thing before?

Wait, if you have a groom's cake and bride and groom's cake, why would you have cookies? Do you mean as a second option? Or are you saying the cake is just for you and your FH and the guests will have cookies?

I think it depends on the type of cookies! We had cake, cupcakes, and macarons. The macarons were all eaten up immediately! We had some leftover cake and cupcakes (but not much). Just make sure the cookies are GOOD and fresh. I do think it would be good to have different options though, maybe a couple types of cookies and also cupcakes or something. People generally want cake at a wedding.

The main worry I have it about the bride and grooms cutting cake. As a guest, I would probably be bummed there was not enough cake for the guests. The guests will probably see that and wonder where their cake is. If you're set on cookies only, I would not do a cutting cake unless you provide a cake option for your guests as well.

My favorite thing about planning our wedding is that you can make it however YOU want it. I've had several conversations with my Mum reminding her of this. Cookies is a cute idea. Certainly less expensive than cake for everyone. We're having a small cutting cake for us, then cupcakes for everyone else. I went to a very posh wedding where they only had a small cutting cake then an assortment of cheesecakes. Whatever you want on your special day you have at it.

I personally think it is a great thing as it allows allot of room for variety.

Agree with @amanda- I would want to partake in the cake that the couple is cutting. Around here the fancy cookies end up costing almost the same as the cost per person of cake.

Cookies warm from the oven would be great but a challenge for any caterer from a prep standpoint. I would be more open to brownies because I am a chocoholic.

Bride and groom cake will be small and just for us (mainly to look pretty lol). Grooms cake is a non traditional cake that is layers of cake, pudding and cool whip- that is what my FH requested lol. Grooms cake will be served to our guest. So the cookies would be instead of the traditional wedding cake.

You shouldn't have a bride and groom cake just for you guys and then serve your guests something different, IMO. If the grooms cake is regular cake with pudding and cool whip on the side, I think that's fine, but if the pudding and cool whip are layers, I would think that would be a little too much for some. I would get a small grooms cake and instead, buy some sheet cakes in the back that's the same flavor as the cake you guys are cutting to serve to your guests.

So what if we don't cut the bride and groom cake and leave it just for looks? Like serve each other cookies.

The grooms cake is layered pudding and cake with cool whip and fruit. It's very delicious but I can understand some people not being into that sort of desert.

I wouldn't even have a bride and groom cake because what's the point? I guess I don't understand why you'd have the cake, but you'd rather serve cookies, especially if the cost is similar?

I would be all over macaroons. But I also love good soft chocolate chip cookies! I say go for it. Who doesn't love more desserts?!

I don't really see anything wrong with having cookies instead of cake. I guess it's a know your crowd kind of situation; my guests definitely wouldn't mind! Smiley smile
