Copyright music?

Amanda, on October 6, 2019 at 3:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Hey guys! My wedding is in a few months, and we’re getting the final things together. We can’t afford to hire a dj so we want to make a playlist of songs to play that. My videographer mentioned something about copyright Issues? Is this something that I need to be concerned about? Or is this something he would be concerned about as a videographer? If this is something I need to worry about how do I go about making sure no one gets into any trouble? TIA. Amanda Grotsky

It won’t matter for your playlist, but I think it might matter for your video. Usually videographers place music over the video though so I’d just ask what the concerns are.

This. You can use it for personal use but your videographer can’t sell you a video with music that they don’t have rights to.

If I’m not planning on selling or showing it to anyone but relatives, I don’t have to worry.

Right, but the videographer would be using the song for commercial purposes since you are paying the videographer for their services.

Cattlyn is right. They cannot sell you a video with music that they do not have rights to. Confirm with your videographer that they can mute out the background and put in either music they do have a copyright to, or some non-commercial music. As long as they can take out the background noise of copyrighted music (which any decent videographer can) then you’re fine to play anything you like!

Awesome. Thank you everyone. I will give my videographer a call and see how we can make sure that everything will be legal beforehand.
