Coronabrides ..is anyone having a backyard wedding ?

Sarah, on June 9, 2020 at 4:49 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 24
Just curious with everything going on have any brides decided to have a backyard wedding? My fiancé and I were going to get married on July 12th but our venue officially cancelled us a couple of days ago. We decided not to rebook with them because we weren’t happy with them as a venue and there is just so much uncertainty. Do any brides feel like they don’t want to have a big celebration anymore?

My soon to be sister in law has offered her yard and house for us to get married. We will still have our photographer come but just having immediate family. We still want to make it special.

Had a backyard wedding on Sunday with 3 people. It was amazing! Definitely gave me a boost of energy for our big celebration in September.

If we had (or had access to) a backyard that was beautiful and big enough and private enough to host a wedding, that would have been our first choice. Backyard weddings can be GORGEOUS and I think there is something extra special about having a wedding in a unique location or a place that means something to you rather than a standard wedding venue!

I think it just depends on what you are looking for, the actual layout of the property and amenities, and number of guests. Tent, table, and chair rentals aren't cheap, so backyard weddings can still be pricey to host if you have a number of people. Also logistics like rain shelter, parking, bathrooms, local rules about parking, congregating, serving alcohol, etc all need to be considered, and if you are having a wedding soon, the new norms of social distancing as well. But if your goal is a more intimate wedding and you have a beautiful space, do it!

I'd definitely reach out to any pro vendors you have and intend to keep for your day to ask them with their comfort level of working at a private residence and any limitations that might exist. For example I know a number of photographers now that will only shoot outdoors due to Covid restrictions, so that might mean being flexible with the date to avoid bad weather or renting a big tent so you can be outside regardless. You just want to make sure you are communicating clearly with everyone involved and that the situation you can work out is one you are happy with.

We are having a backyard wedding on Friday!! At first it was not ideal but now I am actually excited, the worst part is not having everyone we want there. The best part is that it will be more intimate and WAY less stressful. We are just going with the flow!

It was stress free. I got ready at 5:30, danced with my husband for a couple of songs while we were waiting for the sun to go down and our families were watching on Zoom. My mom, our photographer and wedding planner were in attendance. And of course our minister. Easy peezy!

Ironically we had to go meet our wedding planner then next day. Who gets married and then still has to plan a wedding....? It was definitely the boost I needed!!

I think this sounds like a great idea! We are not getting married until next May, but I am still seriously considering it for our wedding... I would certainly consider professional vendors, as just because you’re in a familiar space doesn’t mean you want to take on more responsibility than you may have originally planned, but I love that it allows you to potentially be more flexible and creative.

We are having a backyard wedding next Saturday (6/20)! We will have our photographer, officiant, and about 20 guests. We pushed our bigger wedding out to August. If we could have gotten most of our money refunded, probably would have completely cancelled the larger wedding.

We will be having our backyard wedding in September! It was our original plan, as one of my bridesmaids has property out of town and offered her yard for us to use. It's been nice because we have complete control of every detail, and the added bonus of it being a huge cost savings!

If you plan doing something very small and low key, I think a backyard wedding is totally fine. My sister-in-law had a back yard wedding with about fifty people. She told me all of the work that went into planning her wedding at her house and there was no way I would have wanted that because there are so many things you don't think of when you have a wedding at a venue that you now have to worry about.

We will be having a backyard wedding on 6/26! It’s strange it doesn’t feel like I’m getting married in 2 weeks lol we moved the big wedding to next June. The backyard ceremony will only be immediate family (14 total including us). I think it will be a great day regardless so we’re excited about it! We’ll still have our photographer there so we can capture all the memories of the day we officially become husband and wife. There will be plenty of food and booze afterwards too, it’ll be a great celebration!

Not sure what part of the country you are located, but in Erie PA there is a new wedding company "Pop Up Weddings" and they specialize in pop up backyard weddings, including catering. Backyard weddings are SO beautiful! White linens and white candles make anything look amazing!!

I am in the same situation as you. Our wedding in MI is August 29. We cancelled our venue and we were lucky enough to get our deposit back due to covid uncertainty. Our friend offered us there backyard so we rented a tent and will have our reception there. I think it will be just as perfect. We had to cut our list down a little bit but we are still inviting around 200 guests. The only worry is the heat but we are going to get portable ac units and fans 😀
I say go for the backyard wedding. Don't let covid stop you guys!

I'm having a backyard ceremony with about 25 people! I still am having a big wedding at my venue next year but only because I wouldn't have gotten a refund. Otherwise I would have just settled on the backyard wedding. They look so cute in pictures and just seem much more intimate.

That’s amazing! I know they are definitely more intimate and less stress. Just curious, did your venue say they wouldn’t refund you?
