#Coronabrides name change in Nj???

Lauren, on May 28, 2020 at 1:52 PM Posted in New Jersey Planning 0 2
So my fiance and I had to postpone our wedding to the summer but we still got legally married on our original date in April. I need to get on his health insurance ASAP but I'm running into issues with changing my last name because the DMVs are closed. I can change it legally through social security but I can't get a new license with my new last name because it has to be done in person. My bank and credit cards all need a new ID along with the marriage certificate to update my name. Is anyone else experiencing this or have any suggestions?? HELP

I'm in NJ as well. I was able to get on my husband's health insurance right away after we got married. They just needed a copy of the marriage certificate. The policy actually was backdated to the date we got married. I changed my name several months after we got married and just updated the insurance along with everything else. I don't know when you'll be able to change your name at the MVC, but you should not need to do that prior to getting the health insurance. Plenty of women don't ever change their names, so I would be surprised if that was a specific policy that the insurance company held.

Prioritize getting on your husband's health insurance right away with your maiden name! Once DMVs open back up again you can resume the name change process, and update your insurance info accordingly!
