Hi ladies,

Out of curiosity, are you ladies postponing or cancelling your weddings? My fiancé and I were supposed to get married on April 18th, but three weeks ago we decided to move it to August 30th. Almost our entire guest list is able to make the new date (~120 people), but we’ll see when the time gets closer. I’m really hopeful about our new wedding date, and I’m praying every day that things start to improve as people comply with the new guidelines— I would be so happy to see some kind of normalcy by June. What are you ladies thinking about doing?

Catie I think we may be in luck. Restaurants are likely going to allow indoor dining at 50% capacity at the end of this month - which would mean things should be even better by August....!

I'm in WNY and am so confused on what to do. Original date was May 30th, we postponed to July back in March when we thought July was soooo far away and plenty of time for this to be behind us. We booked for July 18th but now that is looking highly unlikely since we have 220 people on our guest list. But I get waves of hope that maybe I could pull it together since phase 3 is starting next week, but then I come back to reality and realize its highly unlikely. We have another date now, October 24th, I was hoping for Sept because I am nervous that by the end of October there could be the second wave that some are talking about. Thinking of all of you!

Now these days you can't really look at it like that. With everything opening up hopefully it will get better. Keep your date and hope for the best. My wedding is October 16th. I'm praying for the best and that it's not a second wave. But if it is so be it. We will still get married on that day.

We were able to move ours out of our county to a nearby one and preserve our date as is, but less people will likely come due to distance and covid Smiley sad. However, trying to re-do this a different date just wasn't going to work. We're 8/1 of this year.

I had to postpone mine also for next year. It was a bummer but at the same time a blessing. I can take my time now to plan everything without feeling stressed out. Or in a rush.

He didn't exactly say we wouldn't have a second wave. He said, "We don’t inevitably have to have a second wave. I mean people talk about it but it doesn’t necessarily have to occur. It’s the way we and the efficiency and effectiveness in which we put the manpower, the systems, the tests, to identify isolate and contact trace that will determine how successful we are in preventing that wave." I just didn't want misinformation about there..I've been following him super closely especially since he lives and works in the same area I live in.

So, technically there is still a very high possibility there will be a second wave. My wedding is in August in Maryland and we are still only allowed to be in groups of 10 or less. So for me, an August wedding doesn't seem possible right now. I honestly think it depends where you are in the country as well. But still even with that, I don't think I'm comfortable attending any weddings this summer, which is why I'm attempting to postpone mine once my venue allows me too. But again thats just me. For anyone that can move forward with their plans and feel comfortable, I am so happy you will be getting your day! In the end each of us will get that whether its this summer or a later date.

Well personally as a healthcare professional in NY state i believe we will not have a second wave in my region and that is also the opinion of most of my colleagues. every state is different and of course the experts have been wrong every step of the way. right now infection rate is highest its ever been in 21 states and lowest its ever been in Ny. we have less than 1% of the population testing positive. i would be very comfortable attending a wedding even tomorrow. our beaches are packed with maskless folks, restaurants are pretty normal although outdoor dining only is permitted and u have to wear a mask upon entering. i would say 9/10 of my coworkers and friends have been infected already so i would have no issue attending a wedding in ny this year.

I’m not here to argue I just didn’t want people to not have inaccurate information regarding what he said. I’m glad you feel comfortable. But for me I don’t. My fiancé is in his residency of medical school so I know exactly what’s been happening. The only reason things are opening up is because hospitals have beds for people, not because the virus is under control. I wish you the best on your wedding, but for myself and my family and friends I’m not taking that risk. I’m hoping to postpone as soon as my venue allows me too.

Actually also not true. the virus is under control in NY has nothing to do with hospital beds being open. yes there is more than 30% ICU beds available thats part of it but the infection rate is also down. we have no new cases at my facility. not here to argue either, just to spread the facts.

Part of the reasons states can reopen is because beds are available and hospitals won’t be overrun. The governor of New York has even said that on his press conferences, I watch them everyday. Infection rate is down because people have been stuck inside. Once things open infection rates will rise, they don’t know how high and it only becomes a problem if hospitals don’t have capacity for patients.

I will end on that note. I wish you the best with your wedding day!

I agree Kenzie, covid is not under control. There are countries doing very poorly in comparison to others. This is also a global pandemic. As soon as travel happens covid will spread. Thanks to all the people spreading their germs and not wearing masks!
