Hi ladies,

Out of curiosity, are you ladies postponing or cancelling your weddings? My fiancé and I were supposed to get married on April 18th, but three weeks ago we decided to move it to August 30th. Almost our entire guest list is able to make the new date (~120 people), but we’ll see when the time gets closer. I’m really hopeful about our new wedding date, and I’m praying every day that things start to improve as people comply with the new guidelines— I would be so happy to see some kind of normalcy by June. What are you ladies thinking about doing?

Hi Danielle, I’m so sorry. We too had to postpone and at first, we were totally feeling the same way!! I’ve definitely had my down days. We had some bright sides. One is with everything shut down, our weddings will automatically be “thee event of the year”! We still get the cool 2020 year. A lot of people are being so extra kind to COVID brides where if a flower or wrinkle in the dress isn’t perfectly so on our weddings, no guest would say a word when typically they may have 😉 a personal bright side for me is our postponed date falls closely to the anniversary of my grammas passing and my family will be finally together celebrating something happy, which would typically have been an extremely sad, lonely, week. Hope this helps and I hope the bright side for you shines through 🌅☀️🌷

Hi Christina, I hope all is well, wondering what you guys decided to do --were you able to secure a new date with your vendor?
We're coming to the realization that things are still going to be crazy in September, so we're trying to figure out alternative plans.

Leaning towards a backyard reception with our family and then a cocktail happy hour/party with the people that couldn’t come at a later date. Since New York State hasn’t released guidelines we can’t wait much longer to settle our plans! It’s just so stressful!

How are you holding up with this all? Just sad to think back to March when I felt like there was so much time and now it’s 2 months away and things aren’t any better!

I'm really sad about everything, the numbers here keep going up because people refuse to wear masks or socially distance. I feel like I'm mourning. The primary reason we picked our September date was for my FH's grandmother, she'll be turning 98 around that time and we know that she may not be here to celebrate with us if we postpone, but we also knows it's not safe for her to attend anything. I've also lost a couple of family members to covid-19 earlier in the pandemic, so I know it's illogical to think we'll have any semblance of our planned ceremony during the chaos.

I am so sorry! About your FH Grandma (I’ve lost all mine and it breaks my heart that they can’t be with us and my fiancé still has two with us, one who has been sick on and off as well so I know the importance of keeping his Grandma safe but wanting her to see the wedding). It’s just terrible! And the family you have lost to this horrible virus, I’m terribly sorry!!!! It’s not fair!

The most frustrating thing is our numbers in NY have drastically gone down so things are getting so well around here... it’s just the fear of people coming in from other states that starts it up again!

New jersey is the same way. No word on weddings. Our wedding is at the end September and we dread postponing again.

    Thank you ♡♡
I completely understand that fear, so many states have numbers that are spiking right now (including ours)!
We've decided that if we do postpone we'll still get married on our original date. We've asked his dad if he'd get ordained and perform our ceremony with immediate family only; then hold a full ceremony and reception next year. Though we're still waiting until closer to August to decide to if we're postponing.

We had our wedding planned for October 10th, 2020. However we decided to have a small ceremony with just our parents, siblings, and bridal party. We plan on having a vow renewal and reception the following year. Most of my family is from out of state. New York State has travel restrictions, so none of my family would be able to be there. It breaks my heart but I still get to marry my best friend this year and it keeps everyone safe.

So far we are keeping our August 8th date and holding my wedding as planned. Our venue is holding it regardless at this point. If we have to cancel we are just getting legally married and then waiting a year for the wedding. We have an idiot Governor who isn't letting us reopen completely and our venue is just as sick of him as we are. Prayers for you guys and your wedding! I hope they are perfect regardless!

I've postponed my wedding from June 20,20 to June 12, 21. Luckily NY figured out a way to obtain marriage certificates virtually so we had a small ceremony at my moms house with my Reverend via zoom. My mom decorated we got balloons, a cake, a bouquet all things the big days should have. I didn't wear my dress I wore a beautiful jumper with a train attached. I think if you can still get married and have your big party later it's a great option. Wasn't ideal and of course we mourned but COVID stopped the wedding, it couldn't stop the marriage. We still got our cool 6/20/20 date and we got experience the beauty of having something small and private and still get a big party with more time to make it bigger and better (that's the silver lining I derived lol). We didn't tell a lot of people and didn't post photos on social media so when the big day came it would feel the same. Hope it works out for everyone.
