#Coronabrides, Should i Postpone or Cancel?

Thi, on April 21, 2020 at 2:13 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 4

Hi ladies, are you ladies postponing or cancelling your weddings?
My fiancé and I are planning to get married on 08/07/2020. We have talked to our venue vendor and tried to reason with them, and we even offer to move ANY DAY OF THE WEEK and ANY MONTHS in 2021, but they were unable to help us move up our date since they stated they can only focus on the wedding dates that are affected right now (april-may) and that regardless we can ONLY move it WITHIN 2020 calendar... The cancelling policy would remain the same which is no refund. This is so frustrating because we have put down a good amount of venue deposit already (worth 2 months of rent) and we were looking forward to have our dream wedding there with my close friends and family. We are hesitant to cancel our wedding since the place looks amazing and amazing food but fear that this will cause me stress to plan a wedding that may not happen the way we envision and with the team that won't sympathize with our current situation.

Any ideas?

My wedding is 08.08.20 and I am not planning on canceling right now. We are waiting for June to see how things are and if they are worse then we will think about canceling it. But as of right now, we are still 4 months out and things should be a little better by then. So I suggest just relax and wait for June.. since yeah a lot of places don’t wanna dealt with anything unless is in the near future. Stay positiveSmiley smile

Our venue is doing the same thing (July 25th here). We reached out to talk Plan B and they said they are working to reschedule the brides that are affected currently and shortly after our stay at home order. They weren't rude about it, but I was a little surprised they weren't willing to work with us on identifying a new date. My guess is that this has been devastating for their business and want to hold on to hope to hold the weddings that could potentially go on later in summer. My state just released a 3 phase plan for reopening and holding gatherings - I simply don't see how we will be at phase 3 (no restrictions) when we aren't even in phase 1 and can't even get the level of testing needed.

I Think You Should Hold Out On Canceling Or postponing Until Closer To Your Date. Things Can Get Better Within That Time Frame. I also Asked My Venue About A Back Up Plan But They Arent Looking At Later Events Yet.

    Hi Thi,

I'm sorry you're having to think about canceling or postponing your wedding. That's a really tough spot. You're obviously not alone. Here are some other discussions with August brides:

Is your venue willing to discuss plan B dates in 2020? Would putting a soft hold on a later date be an option for you? And, if so, would you feel less stressed about everything if you had a back-up date just in case? After your venue is done moving April-May weddings, they may need to look at June-July postponements and so on. Unfortunately, it's a bit of a waiting game for everyone right now.

I'm hoping you can work with your venue to find a solution that eases your mind. Smiley heart
