Coronavirus & Gifts

KitKat, on March 27, 2020 at 10:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

My wedding is set for the week of May 27th (it's a big Indian wedding so it's a whole week), now as the coronavirus spreads and everything is in question, we may have to postpone. We're waiting until the end of April to make any decisions. We figure if it comes down to it we will continue and do a small wedding ceremony or a court marriage and postpone the reception to later in the year. Now my question is, what is the etiquette on gifts in this situation? We've already received some gifts off our registry, if we cancel the wedding ceremony (but still get married) and postpone the reception to a later date, do we need to return the gifts? I may be over thinking this but under current circumstances my mind has been spiraling. Thoughts?

I don’t think you need to return the gifts. Send thank you card though still as a nice gesture

I agree, i don’t think you would need to return the gifts. Only if the wedding is called off or if you cancel all together.

We aren't returning gifts. We are sending out thank yous a little earlier than expected.
We are actually getting more gifts in the mail after we announced our postponement, that acknowledge the fact that we postponed.

Thanks ladies, that's what I was leaning toward but the circumstances have got me second guessing every move.
