Coronavirus - not postponing, but reevaluating

Sharonda, on April 15, 2020 at 4:10 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12
Hello everyone - I’m just wondering if anyone who is getting married late this year/early next year are re-evaluating their wedding plans and changing some of the things you planned to do. My wedding is scheduled in January 2021. While I am hopeful that this crisis will be over and we will find a better way to handle it should the virus return, I know that our former normal may not return soon. Therefore, I am revisiting my guest list to see if there is a way to cut it down to account for social distancing at my venue and revisiting my buffet/action stations plan for my reception. I think I will still have a fairly large wedding (from 270 to 200 people simply because of the size of our families), but I am mindful of the world we are living in today. I’m interested to see if other brides are doing the same.

I finished addressing my invites this last weekend. We are at 120 guests, we aren't going to add anymore in like we were planning. Mostly my parents' friends were going to be the add ins. My parents agreed that it's probably the best idea in case there are any limitations. But other than that nope I am going to keep planning. I refuse to let the negativity in anymore.

I'm in March 2021 and I've had a conversation with my fiance about reevaluating wedding plans. For now I'm continuing to plan but keeping all these factors in mind. I won't be adding anymore people to my guest list. I'm really praying and hoping everything will work out.

My wedding date is set for January 2021 and I’m continuing to plan as normal. I am really hoping this all subsides by then!

    1. We are downsizing the wedding by 60 guest. Which allows for less people at each table.

    2. Our welcome bags (99% of our guest are traveling) will include wipes, hand sanitizer, and Vitamin packets.

At the actual wedding we are implementing and asking our venue for a the following request:

We are having an outdoor ceremony, so 2. we are asking the ushers to hold all doors open for guest when entering the reception hall.

    3. Ushers will be dispensing hand sanitizer through out the day/night.

    4. Decided to not do a signing book.

    5. Venue make sure servers are changing gloves at the right time to avoid cross-contamination.

    6. We were having props like beach balls and other blowup things to play with while dancing, we are no longer doing that.

So far, those are the conscience things we are doing.

You bring up a huge point I totally over looked in my modified back up wedding plan! The buffet!!!

We’re having a Sept 26th 2020 wedding ( doing everything in my power not to postpone since we’ve had an almost two year engagement) and we had planned a really cool buffet but I may need to call the caterer and see if it can be served on to individual plays and have people just select from pre portioned plates? Idk this whole thing is wacky!
    Wishing you luck girl!!!

Someone mentioned the buffet issue to me ... and like you, I had not thought about it. But I’m glad we have time to figure it out. I’d be interested to know what ideas your caterer has, so please share once you’ve spoken to them. This whole thing is wacky indeed, but we’ll get through it. Best of luck to you as well!!
