Corsage alternative?

Brittany, on June 21, 2018 at 11:58 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 17

Help! We're doing boutonnieres for our dads and I don't want to leave the moms out. That being said, my mom feels like corsages are dated, and I have to agree. Any ideas on what we could do as an alternative? I've seen clutches that have the flowers tied around them and I think that would be fine for my mom, but not his mom or my step-mom. We're DIY-ing all of our flowers using artificial stems and I have plenty of time to play around with any ideas thrown my way.

The moms wore boutineers at my wedding. I just put a pink ribbon instead of a blue one. It looked nice

We did a small mothers boutonierre for our moms/grandmothers. It was something my florist offered us. IDK if there is an official name of it though.

We are doing a nosegay for our moms. Our moms also thought corsages were dated. A nosegay is basically a really small bouquet (smaller than the bridesmaids, maybe 3-4 stems of floral/greenery) that they carry down the aisle.

So the moms will have nosegays and the grandmas will have corsages.

An old fashioned idea that is popular again is a tussy mussy. It is a tiny bouquet that is made in a holder that they can keep.

You could also make them a version of a boutonniere- little feathers dipped in gold

Would the mothers be against wearing flowers somewhere other than their arm? Flowers can make beautiful head pieces, and they would not likely conflict with other jewelry or accessories. Your idea of affixing flowers to accessories would also be quite lovely. Perhaps the mothers could choose the accessory to which they'd like to add flowers. It seems like you have some great ideas to consider!

I'm so conflicted on this for the same reason... but my mom is also walking me down the aisle so I don't want to give her a bouquet that would look awkward LOL

I'll be wearing a wrist corsage at both my daughter's weddings. I didn't want to pin anything to my dresses.

Hi Brittany! I love the idea of a ring corsage! They offer a nice contemporary twist to traditional corsages and are effortlessly beautiful!

Flower hoops are another trendy alternative!

There are also a lot of modern style ideas you could add to make the corsage appear contemporary, like maybe adding pearls, beads, or even rhinestones! Flower crowns and other floral type hair pins are also nice alternatives!

When we went to talk to the Florist we are getting corsages for FMIL and grandmothers but not for my mom. She did not want anything. She really didn't want to corsage because she does not want to crush it when dancing and doing other things! But she just decided not to hold or pin or have any flowers all together! So maybe that is something to think about.

They don't all have to be the same, your mom could have the clutch and your FMIL and FSMIL could have a normal corsage, or a boutineer type flower?

I'm planning on a nosegay for moms, for grandma a pinned corsage, so like a boutiniere. With different different colors and ribbons.

I'm having the same dilemma! I too think corsages are kind of dated. My florist suggested that the mothers each get one large "statement" flower (something with a big bud like a peony, a poppy, etc) that they carry in their hand. Cheaper than a small bouquet, and less wasteful IMHO. I think we'll be doing that!

We aren’t having our moms walk down the aisle with anything because during the ceremony we are surprising them with a thank you speach (quick and simple. “Thank you Christina, for always supporting me in every adventure and loving me even when you didn’t have to” is what I will say to my stepmom) and hand them a small bouquet of 4 or 5 stems

That was going to be my suggestion.
