Corsage instead of bouquet

Married52113, on November 20, 2012 at 7:42 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

What are your thoughts on bridesmaids having a corsage instead of carrying bouquets? I am doing a low key beach wedding so I am thinking it will look fine, but I just need some other people's thoughts.

My florist mentioned that flowers are heavy (even singular) having them on a dress for even a short ceremony is a long time and can pull and make holes in the dresses. You could have them hold a single flower, which I've seen in pictures is really beautiful. I don't think there is anything wrong with corsages but think about the dresses if they're light and flowy for the beach it is something to keep in mind.

I was assuming you would have them wear the corsage on their wrist? In that case I think it would look fine.

Edit: I guess we responded at the same time, haha.

Yeah a boutonniere goes on the dress/tux, corsage is on the wrist. I think its a lovely idea, that's wut I'm doing. You can still make them ass elegant & formal as bouquets, & your bm get to wear them the whole time instead of carrying around flowers or laying them on tables... there's plenty of tutorials too, if you're looking to diy corsages

I recommend just giving them each one flower Smiley smile easier/cheaper than a corsage (wrist or pinned on)

I would also recommend a single flower instead or a wrist corsage for a few reasons A) what are they going to do with their hands while they walk down the aisle and stand for the vows? You may run the risk of crossed arms or hands on hips B) Corsages in my opinion are for old ladies or teenaged girls... my Mom and MIL didn't wear them for our wedding, but our Grandmother did and I wore one to prom

I would have them hold a single flower. Something like a calla lily is big and bright and makes a statement but doesn't cost much.

One good thing about holding a bouquet/flower is that it gives people something to "do." It keeps them from fidgeting their hands while everyone is watching them walk down the aisle and while they're standing up front.

If they're being escorted down the aisle and if they can keep their hands clasped during the ceremony the corsages could work though.

I guess I would also think about photos and the kinds of poses you want.

Single flower. I actually think the whole something to carry is so it's less awkward walking down the aisle with everyone looking at you.

When brides wish to have corsages to be worn on garments, I use Corsage/Boutonniere Magnets.

Magnets hold strong & prevent damaging any type of material. The guys love them too ~ no more struggling with pins!

Also, corsages created properly can be quite light.

Opting for a wrist corsage can be quite beautiful by using a crystal bracelet.

Wishing you a 'happy ever after'

One of the added advantages of a bouquet for the bridesmaids is that they make beautiful centerpieces for the head table during the reception. Depending on the heat of the day, one flower can quickly fade and droop. An alternative is a high end artificial flower instead.
