Corsages?

Samantha, on July 3, 2021 at 1:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 15
My groom, his bestman, our fathers, and my brother will be wearing boutonnieres for the wedding but I'm confused about his mom and stepmom. I haven't seen a corsage that looked nice or held up through all the hugging, dancing, etc. Since we're having a bit of a laid back wedding anyway, would it be fine to have both of them have a single red rose instead of a corsage or should we have them wear boutonnieres as well? My MOH will have a small bouquet (no bridesmaids or groomsmen) that will reflect mine (Red roses with the stems wrapped in gold ribbon).

I think you could do a single rose or do one that they wear on their wrist.

A corsage is supposed to be visible when worn. A red rose may get left behind for photos. I'd ask the florist for a small, sturdy corsage or do wrist corsages

I did sweetheart roses for mom, grandmas. Just do something small, it’s a nice touch.

We did bouts for the women of the family, as well, instead of corsages. Particularly in warm weather, you just don't want things on your wrist.

My mom did not want a coursage or flowers in any manner. I asked my MIL as well and she said she was fine with no flowers too. We don't have a bridal party so the only ones with flowers will be me, groom, my dad and FIL. This also allows us to add flowers elsewhere! Flowers are not required for anyone, they just look nice and tie things together if you ask me

I like wrist corsages, and would aim for those for the ladies. Also, maybe ask for smaller flowers to be used - my father in law's bout at my BIL's wedding was a beautiful almost purple rose, but it broke quite early on in the day. We had to get a sewing kit from the front desk of the hotel and I had to put it back together for him using a needle.

(That sewing kit came in super handy as it happened, as the lace on my dress split later in the day and I had to borrow the needle to sew my dress back up in the rest rooms, LOL.)

    For reference -

if you did get ones for your ladies, maybe something like these, which aren't so top heavy?

My mom was just in my stepbrother's wedding last year where she had a corsage, but instead of wearing it on their wrists, the mothers pinned them to their dresses. They looked REALLY pretty because they had more than a bout does, but they didn't get in the way on the wrist like you said.

The women in my wedding had corsages and they held up in the heat and humidity. They were very sturdy but also not overwhelming. The moms had larger ones and grandmas had smaller ones. I think they took them off towards the middle of the reception when everyone was partying but they all loved having them for formal portraits and through the ceremony, cocktail and reception.

We're doing a single rose for our mothers and gmoms based on their own opinions. None of them wanted to wear a corsage on their wrist because they don't find them comfortable.
