Cost of Welcome Bags

MP1013, on March 20, 2018 at 10:23 AM Posted in Planning 0 40

Hello all! First time asking a question here. We have a block of rooms at a hotel and one of the things they offer are welcome boxes in the rooms. I am definitely interested in doing them but wanted to get your opinions on if you all think this is a good deal - it's $12/box and I am not sure I can do it for much cheaper and this would definitely be much less hassle. I attached a picture of what the hotel offers. Thanks in advance for your help!

I think I'd be willing to pay $12 per box just because the hotel is going to do it and you won't have to worry about it at all!

Yep - that's exactly what I am thinking! Do you think I need to add anything to what they have included in the boxes?

It seems pretty pricey for what you’re getting, but youre paying for labor and convenience, so kind of depends how much that is worth for you....consider how many you’ll need. Doing something simple yourself, especially if you can buy in bulk, could save you actual hundreds of dollars if you need a large number of them. If you don’t need that many, the convenience might be worth the extra expense

I think it’s a great idea! It helps that it’s per room not per person!

Thanks! I am just at the point in planning where we booked the rooms and are getting the STD's out - I agree - depending on how many I need and what I want to include, I'll price things out in bulk and go from there - if I did this I would be paying for the convenience.

It's a great idea. I need to create these myself, but having someone else do it is amazing! Totally take them up on their offer!

I think maybe the only thing that you could add if you wanted to would be some granola bars

If it's one less thing for you to worry about at all, then I say go for it. You're paying for the convenience which is as good of a reason as any to spend money!

I estimate those would cost you about $8 max to make. So they are padding it a little for assembly, I’m assuming.
I am doing my own welcome bags because I want to add stuff unique to the area/state.
Its definitely not a bad deal if you can afford it! If you’re penny pinching like me, I’d just do my own, as you can make it a little more personal to the couple.

Very good point....I don't have to decide yet - I think it will be one of those things that we can see how things go over the next few months and go from there. I do agree I could make it more personal if I did it myself. Thanks for the advice!

I think these boxes/packages are a waste to be honest. A lot of hotels provide water in the room already (you should check) and I don't see the point of giving someone a bag of chips and a chocolate bar.

You could def do it for cheaper, but the convenience of having the hotel do it for me would totally be worth it to me. Shopping for all the stuff and then stuffing all the bags can be time consuming depending on the size of the wedding.

I put together 25 welcome bags for around $6 each and it only took me about 30 minutes to stuff them. They include generic white bag, welcome letter, gum, tissues, chocolate, crackers, gummy bears, water, Pepto, Advil, Shout, and sunscreen. I got all of my stuff on Amazon and the dollar store. I got my welcome note template from Etsy.

You're more paying for it to be pretty. They are pretty, but is it worth twice the money for what I did?

I think this is a great deal and it's worth a little extra to have the hotel handle it. Also keep in mind that most hotels charge $1-$2 per bag/box if you bring your own anyway (mine charges $4, ugh). I would definitely do this if I had the option.
