Costco Flowers -- Help please. :)

Kerry, on April 24, 2011 at 11:08 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 16

I can't bring myself to spend thousands of dollars on flowers, but I also don't want to use fake flowers. I've been doing a lot of research and Costco seems to be a potential option. They have pretty good reviews from the sites I've seen, but I was wondering if any WW ladies have experience/know someone with experience ordering their wedding flowers from Costco.

Thanks girls! Smiley smile

I used Samsclub and it's basically the same thing. I had all my white roses sent from their website. I didn't order bouquets from them, just bulk roses. I made sure they got there 1-2 days prior to the wedding. I just followed the directions. I made all the centerpieces and my bouquet the morning of my wedding with the help of my sister and step mother.

    Great to know, thanks.

I have zero experience with floral arrangements, so I don't think I would trust myself to order bulk flowers. They do sell sets including bouquets and centerpieces which are already made. I think I'm leaning towards that option.

If you like the selection, i'd say go for it. but maybe go to your closest branch and physically see the flowers. i used a website called Fifty Flowers. they do flowers in bulk. i'm making my centerpieces to save money. i'm just having the florist do the bouquets and boutonnieres.

You need to go talk to your local Costco. They will have someone to talk to. It depends on who they use. I checked into it for my wedding in Hawaii. I did not use them but could have. I did buy the orchid leis for all the guests from the Kona Costco. They set them aide for me.

Not sure if the flowers are the same in Canada as the States (I'm in Canada), but I got my flowers through them and I couldn't have been more happy! I ordered the bouquets (1 bride, 3 bm) and boutonnieres (10), 2 large arrangements to decorate the front of the church, 1 bunch of spray roses for the toss bouquet, and 12 bunches of white spiky mums for my centerpieces. It came to about $450. I picked up the flowers the day before the wedding, and they were awesome! They had even wrapped the bouquets in ivory ribbon.

Here are some pics. 1st is my centerpiece flowers, second is my bouquet, third is of one of the arrangements from the church, which doubled as gift table flowers. Smiley smile

My costco offered pre-arranged bouquets/arrangements and bulk flowers, but as I said, it could be different in the States, and at other stores than it was at my costco.

Definitely check with your local store! I went into mine a couple months ago because I didn't know how far in advance you should order the bouquets but they told me they only take orders 3-4 weeks in advance of the wedding. I went in on Friday (4 weeks before my wedding) and the lady that runs the flower booth was like "oh we don't do bridal bouquets anymore, as of last week!" So I had to order the flowers in bulk also and get a friend to help me assemble them. They are definitely really reasonably priced for the bulk flowers, but hopefully your costco still does bridal flowers.

Thanks girls, I'll definitely check with my local Costco.

Mrs. Murdie - your flowers were gorgeous! I especially love the mums. Smiley smile

You really need to talk to the local Costco. One of the major issues with chain/grocery store type floral departments is the training of the individual people who work there. Some actually no experience arranging flowers, tehy just got thrown into the department. Some have lots of experience and lots of talent. Talk to the manager there, and look at all their arrangements on display. If you don't love those, don't risk it.

Costco is too customer service oriented to do it poorly. Go in and talk to their floral person and order with confidence I say.

I vote DO IT. I am and have a vary good floral person at the one I will be getting my flowers at. I will be making them on my own, the bouquets and centerpieces. If the store you go to has a good floral person they will answer your questions and be able to help. I work for the demo people at a costco. (the demo people are in no way workers for costco.) I have talked to my lady here a bunch and she is amazing. hired out side of costco. She said most of the floral people are brought from another company, not all but most. They are much better trained then sams club people and take care of the flowers better. At least from shopping experience that is what I have had. may not be all the same.

Any way good luck and best wishes.

I actually looked at Costco. My primary concern was that I could only find "packages" of 1 bridal bouquet, X number of bridesmaids' bouquets, Y numbers of bouts, and Z numbers of corsages. Since we needed two bridal bouquets, one MOH bouquet, one bout, and no corsages, none of their packages worked for us. Do they have more flexibility if you go to the store, instead of ordering online?

If you want colored roses, this is one of the best sites out there.

Not sure if you are planning centerpieces too, or if you have a large wedding party, but here is an example of a bill - tax included! Less than $1 per rose when you add in the extras.

    $482.96 tax included gives you...

400 roses, 60 stems (6 bunches filler flower) and then Choose your greens -

example Greens 1: Green Cordyline 60 stems Green #2: Israeli Ruscus 50 stems

Some grocery stores have floral professionals as well, if your costco is a no-go. Krogers and Publix can offer those services as well.

And if you're nervous about DIY flower arrangements, there are TONS of videos and guides out there. Youtube, marthastewart.com and a few others. Best advice I've seen for centerpieces? Arrange flowers in bunch as you like and use a clear elastic hair tie to keep them together, then place in vase. Works great!

Has anyone ever used HEB? I have heard some great things about them. I am going at the end of this week to order mine.
