Costco Flowers - Help.

Lee I., on March 6, 2012 at 2:01 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 31

Has anyone ordered flowers from Costco? Bulk flowers that is. I'm actually thinking about really doing this for the wedding flowers. IT'S SO MUCH CHEAPER than a florist in Phoenix.. What do you guys think?

One of my friends who recently got married got her flowers from Costco and recommended it to me. I have never been to a Costco, but this friend, she must secretly work for them because she is always advertising for them!

I read the reviews on their online website and they are very good. So I think I might take that route.. 750$ vs 2500.00... hmmm .. COSTCO please!

Good choice Blair! I can't decide between their hawaiian themed arrangements.. or just ordering bulk flowers myself and creating the centerpieces and bouqets myself. Any DIY brides out there that have done their own flowers? How difficult is it??

I am doing costco for my flowers. The lady told me to come in a month or 2 before, place the order and then it will be available for pick up the day before or the morning of at 8am. We are doing the 8am delivery and my moms friend (a retired florist) is arranging them for me. I ordered my boutineers and corsages from a florist though as those are more fussy to make.

I was going to, but they ended up being more expensive then buying wholesale from the flower district downtown! its a good deal otherwise

Leena - I have no floral experience whatsoever, but my DOC said that the one thing she really advises brides against is DIYing bouqets from real flowers. She told me that after I told her my plan to DIY my dessert table.

Agree with sara-there's already so much to worry about dont DIY your flowers too. Costco's packages are so decently priced you wont save much. And. im saying this and Im beyond cheap!

LOL Blair! Too funny. I guess you're right.. my SIL works with someone that arranges flowers. I wonder if she would help arrange the flowers for a minimal fee if I gave her the supplies..

We're not going full out on flowers, just bouquets for the wedding party, & were going to get them from the grocery store.. I have also heard great things from Costco.. havent checked prices yet.. but were definitely leaning that route!!

I did my own flowers, but only after taking a couple floral arranging classes which were about $35 each. To this day I do no regret doing my own. I was also not stressed out and found enjoyment and relaxation in doing them myself, I felt very comfortable. I also did a couple practice runs to make sure I would be happy with the outcome.

With Sara P, I agree about not DIY-ing real flowers. There's so much more going on with the wedding and flowers can be really stressful.

I did a practice run for two different bouquet styles - spent $120 on real flowers and floral equipment. It didn't turn out bad, but it was sooo much work.

    Keep in mind:

    - Flowers must be done within one day of the wedding, or two days at the most.

    - They must be also refrigerated. You need plenty of room to keep the flowers, even another refrigerator.

    - You must also be careful about manhandling the petals - finger oils will brown flowers. Amateurs keep fiddling with the flowers to get it to look right and it ends up killing the petals.

    - Delivery of final flowers is precarious. They must be put in water during transport.

For me, it's waaay too much stress. I'd rather pay the florist.

PS. I decided to pay a florist to do my flowers so I'm out the $120 bucks AND the money for the bouquet.

I was going to go with costco. They do have great reviews online but one thing I can say about their flowers is they don't open well. This could just be my location, but every time I get Costco roses they never open. I waited days and tried every trick in the book to get them to open and they wouldn't.

I used Kroger for our roses. They were a little more expensive than Costco but I worked out a deal with the florist there. We did DIY the bouquets and it wasn't hard. I watched videos on youtube about assembling bouquets and I did many practice runs. I had my bouquet made by a florist as well as the corsages and bouts. but we made a bouquet for my MOH and we have six nieces that each had small bouquets and my grandma. And we used the roses for the centerpieces as well.

I was gonna order flowers from this place on line, but since Costco is a few dollars more I am going to look into that.

I looked at Costco, but decided on silk instead because the cost is cheaper and less hassle about worrying where the fresh flowers need to go.

My cousin (in law) got her flowers done by Costco, the lady who runs the flower department actually did her flowers, charged her $100 on top of the flowers, and ended up actually taking a loss on the flowers because she broke a vase and bought a new one from her own pocket. So it worked out really well for my cousin!

I went to the same lady and it was really sketchy. She said the store wasn't letting her do it anymore, and that she wasn't allowed to order flowers, just take what they send in the order. I emailed her in September and didn't hear back, so went to see her in the store. I decided it was way too sketchy, I'm not a stickler about things, but I know I wanted gerbs, and her telling me they would probably have them, but she couldn't order them, and I wouldn't know till June? Don't think so. AND! She emailed me the other day, 5 1/2 months later, asking me what flowers I needed so she could give me a quote. Um, no, I'll go with an actual florist, thank you.

My MIL works for costco, I can tell you what that woman did was probably not approved of by costco. Their florist are an independant company, they can order you any type of color of flower you need for the most part, but they arent supposed to arrange them for you. She could probably get in trouble for that because ot can give costco a bad name if things dont work out.

Mrs. D - exactly. That's why it was so sketchy.
