Could this be altered to tea length

MySharrona, on December 26, 2011 at 5:13 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 11

This isn't altered yet so I am considering turning this into tea-length with a layer of tangerine tulle peaking out 2 inches below the hem but am having hard time envisioning it. What do you think? Not sure if you can tell but the top layer is tulle/netting. Not a great shot—my mom seems to have issues with the digital camera.lol Oh--and that is not my veil!

That is a beautiful dress and I like your idea. I think your question might be best saved for a seamstress.

    That's a gorgeous gown!

I'm not sure about alterations, and this is going to be as uneducated as it gets :-) But I thought most T length dresses are more poofy on the bottom and that's part of what makes them cute :-) I'm not sure if there's enough room in this gown to add something underneath.

If this made any sense. Where's Claire when a person needs her?

@Mrs S--and I can't remember how much room is in the skirt. lol But that's a good point. I'll have to call the boutique (they are storing it until alteration time) and see what they say.

Sure, but even if you decide to leave it as is, you really look like a million $ in it!

I love it, it looks great on you, as said above, I'd take your questions on length to a professional

I agree that a pro needs to give you advice, but I think it is beautiful the way it is, and if you want a tea length I would maybe go with a different style of dress. However, this is just my opinion. I love the dress on you and it looks stunning!!

I love the dress, and I love the idea. I think that with this material, you wouldn't need to make it poofy. When I think of this dress in tea length, I think Marilyn Monroe in the Seven Year Itch - you know, when she stands on the subway grate and made that famous pose.

I think it would look totally hot. Definitely consult the seamstress!!!

I agree with Rachel, it would be very Marilyn. I am bias, love tea length dresses. But yes, as everyone else said, talk to a seamstress.

I'm a seamstress and fashion designer- this one is a tough call. I'm partial to tea length- I made my tea length wedding gown. The tea length would look great with the silhouette of that gown, but the fabric is so soft and drapey I'm not sure if it would poof out properly to get that vintage tea length look. It might be possible with the right petticoat. I would have a friend or seamstress pin it up for you to tea length and put a petticoat underneath, see how it looks first.
