Country themed wedding....with a little camo for the groom

Anyone else having a country wedding? If so.. Are you wearing boots?! My FH refuses to wear a tux and he loves to hunt and loves camo so he and his BM and GM are wearing a camo vest with jeans, I'm not sure how to incorporate camo into the wedding any where else with out it looking...

@Katherine P what colors are your BMs wearing? I thought of a lighter purple or a lighter pink??

How formal is your dress? Personally, I hate it when the bride is wearing a formal wedding dress (like with a big lace train or a full ballgown) and the groom is wearing jeans or khaki pants. But that is just my view. If you really hate the camo, maybe you can get the groom to compromise. Ultimately, however, the wedding is supposed to be an expression of who you are as a couple and if half of that couple loves camo, then maybe that is okay too.

My FH is wearing brown vest, jeans and boots. We are getting married on a ranch.

Our GM will be wearing dark jeans with nice button ups and vests. We're not doing tuxes as it's probably going to be 80+ degrees outside and I personally don't like them, neither does FH. I personally wouldn't do the camo, although our GM and BM will all be wearing boots (luckily all of them already own a pair of cowboy boots, so they're not spending extra money). I like country weddings, but the camo just can't happen lol.

My FH and I hunt and fish, heck on any given day one of us is wearing camo lol. But i convinced him to do a brown tweed vest instead of camo. My BMs and I will be wearing our cowboy boots. That is all I ever wear and I think its super cute with short dresses. I saw others bashing it on another thread. We are planning on having some antlers in the decor and I want to do a hunting or fishing theme grooms cake for him and have this fishing cake topper. Glad there is some more country brides on here! Smiley smile

I was figuring on telling my FH to wear slacks a button down and a vest and that's it, maybe cowboy boots. No 'dress shoes'. If we elope, since we're talking about it, I'm ok with him wearing jeans instead of slacks. If we elope, I'm still wearing my dress, since I bought the dang thing... I'm gonna wear it. LOL

I will be wearing cowboy boots under my dress, and my sister and youngest daughter is thrilled to wear them in their dresses. My eldest daughter, who's my MoH, will probably wear flats or sandals, since she hates cowboy boots. LOL

I'm not trying to be negative, I'm trying to help you avoid looking back at your photos in 10, 20, 30 years and wonder why you went that route.

Personally, I love the cowboy boots and dress look. I also like the jeans and vest look. And while I'm not into camo, I know lots of people who are. You can insert your style and personality in lots of ways without being caricatures of yourself. But purple or pink bridesmaids and camo groomsmen?

Do you have a venue yet? I recommend leaning into that for inspiration. Pink and browns and greens and silvers can be really pretty together. But with all the craze of the country/rustic wedding, if someone discovered a way to do the camo attire well, it would be all over the place. The fact that is isn't says something.

This is your wedding, not Friday night at the hunt and game club, okay? I can understand him not wanting to wear a tux; lots of me don't, but your wedding is not Honey Boo Boo's mom's wedding, nor should it look that way.

This will look redneck no matter how hard you try.

BIL and SIL had a "country" wedding in a barn. Guys wore jeans, white dress shirts, tan vests, and orange ties with cowboy boots. It looked nice. The camo is going to ruin the entire look and your wedding is going to look like something out of Duck Dynasty if you keep the camo.

I'm glad you talked him out of it Heather, because it really doesn't photograph well. I've been to two weddings with camo. :/

There are so many ways to incorporate your country theme into a wedding. Our wedding is in a beautiful chapel and bouquets will look gathered from a garden, and our music will be bluegrass/country (instrumental banjos, guitars, etc for prelude/postlude). The reception is in a big barn, so that's where my FH's tastes will shine through more. There's gonna be some burlap (gasp) along with some more rustic elements. The country theme is unfortunately getting a tad overdone, but, it's who we are.

I'm wearing cowgirl boots under my dress! And that's as far as we're going with that attire! If my FH wasn't wearing dress blues he would probably try and go the camo route too! I totally understand! Lol but I agree with everyone on the brown vests! Hopefully he will like that idea just as much! Good luck!

    Personal opinion:

I like the camo vests a hell of a lot more than the color coordinated, bright blue, pink, and purple prom-esque stuff some people put their guys in.

However, like others have said, this can be done differently and still appeal to him. Green vest, dark brown pants is another option for him.

ETA: Ways we incorporated. The shell bouts are SUPER easy, just glue a magnet on the back of the shell, and use another magnet on the other side of the shirt.

Honestly, I hear the words "camo" and "wedding" together and I shudder. DH loves to scuba dive, but obviously wouldn't wear a wet suit to the wedding. Just because hunting is an activity your fiance loves doesn't mean he has to physically wear it on your wedding day.

I would suggest the brown vest and jeans and if he really wants camo....then have it in his boutonniere or tie.
