County Clerk/City Hall/Courthouse wedding. Had one/been to one? Care to share your experience?

I’m 30 and SO is 29, we are two Financial Independent adults both are Single/Unmarried, No kids. Morally there is nothing wrong with us being together, our only sin was he is not Chinese. My rigid Chinese parents disapprove him, refuse to show up, refuse to give us their blessing.

But we are getting married, due to the strain relationship between me and my parents. I decide to make it simple, he agrees.

It going to be the City Hall/Courthouse wedding to get our “marriage certificate”. His mother and my brother will be our witness.

No engagement ring, No wedding reception, No honeymoon. We both be back to our own full time job working the next day.

So I was wondering, anyone here had a Courthouse wedding, had witness or experienced attending a Courthouse/City Hall wedding before? Can you share how it is like? What is the atmostphere like, what is like inside the courthouse? This is the first marriage for both of us. And I myself never been to any Courthouse wedding.

Obviously every courthouse setting is going to vary from Big city impersonal to small town cozy..I think it's all what you make of it after-have nice celebration with those that support you , go to dinner, etc. My brothers 1st wedding was a court house wedding, which was fine because his wife was leaving for military next day...what was awkward was that the judge performing the ceremony was same judge that I fought a traffic ticket in front of a month prior to..

I witnessed one (I even signed as a witness on the marriage certificate) in October. She wore a white blouse and black pants, he wore slacks and a button up - super casual wedding. It was a beautiful ceremony - the people made it beautiful. It worked for them and fit what they needed. The person performing the ceremony did an great job and you could tell he really, truly cared and felt personally invested in their marriage, which was awesome.

I got married in the courthouse my first marriage. It was free, and no appointment was needed. When we got there, there were about 6 couples there in the waiting area. Each couple went into a private room with the judge when it was their turn for the vows and ring exchange. It went by very fast and was super simple. I've seen blogs where people actually got married in a courthouse but paid to rent a room and those looked beautiful. It really boils down to if you want to have control over the decor aspect or not. Even when people rent a room, they don't necessarily have a lot of guests. I saw one where there was only one guest and they had cupcakes and lemonade afterwards, the pics were beautiful.

There is also one I saw where the couple had no guests and spent only $1500, and was beautiful.

As other posters have said every City/County is a little different, I was a witness at a courthouse wedding last year, and my friend had a scheduled appt. we went into the court room with the town clerk and she married them. We came out and signed the papers, everyone there was happy for her and congratulating her and everything even people coming in to do other business. They were the only couple getting married at that time so there was no other couple waiting.

My brother and his wife got married in the courthouse. It was in a densely populated southern OC court, but not a metropolis like Los Angeles. They were married before a female judge. The room had a white arch with fake flowers on it where they got married underneath it. It was simple and quaint. There were about 3 short rows of brown benches for witnesses/attendants.
