Courthouse Officiant

Brooklyn , on February 22, 2018 at 9:47 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 5
My grandfather is a preacher, and I really want him to officiate our wedding, but we are thinking about having a courthouse wedding so I was just wondering if anyone knew if we could bring our own officiant or if one will be appointed to us.

You can’t bring your own in MA, but I don’t know how other states work. Couldn’t you just get married somewhere outside of the courthouse though (restaurant, park, etc) and then use your grandfather?

A friend had her ceremony in front of her parents' fireplace. Didn't cost her a dime other than the license. I think there were seven guests. Find a location like that. Maybe someone's patio. That would be lovely in September.

If your grandpa is legally able to perform the ceremony, why not just go somewhere private and do a small ceremony. It doesn't have to cost anything. You can do it in a backyard or living room or random spot that is special to you. Just invite whoever would have been invited to the courthouse. It doesn't have to be big and depending on how your county works might actually save a little money. Our county charges to get married at the courthouse (I think it was $10 so not much)

That's true! You can still do it somewhere private, even in your own home, if you want, as long as you have a license and he's legally allowed to perform it.
