courthouse wedding invitation wording

Tori E., on May 18, 2011 at 1:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

My parents "changed" their minds on paying for my wedding so my fh and I are going back to the original which was a courthouse wedding. We are inviting close family and friends and need help with the wording. Im making the invitations myself so i don't want a lot of words ( it will be scrapbook style) if that makes any sense. We are all goign out to dinner after the ceremony at the courthouse that night and want that on the invitations too. Help! thanks

You should be able to google invitation wording; it will give you lots of ideas. Good luck.

Well, here are two things to think about.

    First: http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/photogallery/invitation-wording?xsc=eml_dwd_2011_05_19&#slide_1

Second: This is how my invitation read

Because you have shared in our lives,

By your friendship and love, we

    My Name

    and

    FH's Name

invite you to share the beginning

    of our new life together

    when we exchange marriage vows

on Saturday, the night of July

    Two thousand, eleven

    at five-thirty in the afternoon

Church Name (you could put Courthouse Name)

    Church Address

    City, State

Quick questions, are you paying for everyone's dinner after the court house wedding, and are you inviting them to both? (the courthouse too)

Is everyone invited to be at the courthouse? or you just want them to know you got married and they are invited to dinner? Are you paying for the dinner? If you are not paying for their dinner and just want them to be able to join you, I would be careful of how you word it.

If you are inviting people to witness your vows at the courthouse, make sure you check with the courthouse to know how many people are allowed to be there with you. I know here in AZ if you get married at the courthouse you are only allowed to have your 2 witnesses present with you.

As for how to word the invite, I think almost any traditional non-religious invitation wording would work.
