Covid-19 - nyc Wedding

Hey brides & bridettes (okay, that makes no sense and makes me sound like I am referring to child brides. There's your moment of levity in this post.)

So my wedding is extremely soon. Like in 12 days very soon. We are getting married in Manhattan, and New York recently declared a state of emergency to deal with the novel coronavirus. We have quite a few people traveling from throughout the northeast, domestically and a few from abroad though not high-risk areas.

My plan as of writing is to proceed as originally planned, with the acceptance that some people will not show (we were at 181 confirmed total guests, down to 175 and just heard of 6 more who are now maybe.) because they don't want to travel. I'm bummed, but more daunted by the idea of postponing and still being in 'planning' mode because I really have not enjoyed this process on the whole!

Anyone else going through this? How are you handling it?

I’m an event planner at my job and as of right now, we are still a go ahead with all our meetings. (Last week we had one in FL, in less than 2 weeks we are headed to Arizona and then 3 weeks later to PA.

I’d prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Expect some to drop at least 10%.
Try not to stress and just enjoy the big day you have been planning for

So obviously you can’t change your guests’ minds, but I’d just like to say my mom just flew from LA to Newark this past weekend, and she said the airport was desolate and her flight was like 50% empty which NEVER happens on a LA/EWR flight like that. Obviously people are scared to travel because of coronavirus... but she and I were saying we think ironically actually she was probably exposed to less germs on that flight than on any other flight previously, because the airport and plane had so much fewer people than usual, AND the people who were there were being very careful, wiping stuff down etc. I wouldn’t travel internationally now or anything but as far as in-country goes, I wouldn’t be more nervous to travel than I am in any other flu season... and maybe a little less actually, because again like I said, there’s just so few people and they’re all being sooo careful.

Like I said though you obviously can’t make people do something they aren’t comfortable with, but that’s just some food for thought :p I hope things work out for you and that most people are able to make it! Maybe also give fist bumps or something instead of hugging everyone 😂

Mine is the week after yours. I’ve also tried to shut it out as much as I can. Between the news and social media it’s daunting. I obviously don’t want anyone to get sick but it’s definitely a bummer

Thanks for your responses- we actually decided to postpone our wedding. We were seeing huge numbers of cancellations, we have several good friends/family members in Europe who would not be able to come and our venue offered it to us with no financial repercussions. It’s annoying we will have to go through the full RSVP process and seating again but I’m happy on the whole, and our photographer and band are luckily available on our new date of June 13. Waiting to hear from our rabbi but I think we made the right choice.
