Covid-19. Should i reschedule/cancel?

McKenna, on March 14, 2020 at 4:48 PM Posted in Texas Planning 0 2

I’m getting married May 2! I live outside of Dallas and it’s apparently turned into a community spread over here. I’m freaking out because I don’t know if I should start talking to someone about canceling or not. 99% of my family is out of state in Ohio and a aunt in Georgia. I don’t want them traveling here if it is not safe. My father is traveling as well. He has zero immune system as he had a splenectomy when I was a kid. I can’t get married if he can’t come. I’m so stressed. My fiancé is always positive which I do very much appreciate but right now I feel like I should be figuring out if this is gonna happen or not. My final payments on my the vendors start April 2. I’m trying to wait until March 30-31 to make the call if I should cancel or not. Should I go ahead and start reaching out to my vendors as a precautionary?? My venue says they haven’t had a single bride want to reschedule, only confirm their wedding was still on. Help!

I would start reaching out and coming up with a plan b, just so you have the peace of mind. We ended up postponing our April 4th wedding because most of our guests were travelling, and his mother is immunocompromised. Just as a start for reasons. Our vendors were all extremely understanding, and we moved our plans to an August date that we had originally been eyeing. For the record, we live in the Plano area. My work has mandatory work remote, as does my FH's work, and I had to scramble for groceries. I know our mayor said we need to not have gatherings through the end of March. They might extend that because of the community spread. The best thing you can do is talk to your vendors and see your options.

With your May date, I would wait a bit and see what happens. They may be able to contain it with the measures currently being taken. Deep breaths! I'm so sorry this is happening to you. The important part is being married. The when you do it will matter less at the end of the day. Good luck!

I like Kathryn’s idea of coming up with a plan B. Do you have a wedding planner who can help?

I don’t have a lot of advice but I just wanted to validate your concerns/stress. I’m sorry this is happening. I’m in Plano & my wedding is May 23rd. I’m beyond stressed out and my wedding planner has been great.
I think the next week or so will really tell us what this virus is doing & could help determine what we should do going forward.
    Hang in there girlfriend!
