Covid-19 Testing

Crystal, on March 20, 2022 at 1:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 22
For those of you requesting negative Covid tests for your wedding, how many hours are you requiring? 48 hours before the wedding? 72 hours?

I really want to do 48 hours… but I don’t want to have issues with results.

We are "strongly encouraging" within 24 hours but aren't officially going to check.

Our venue isn't legally required to check. Are you hiring a third party service to check, or just making everyone email their result?

What test are you requiring? I know by me I never get pcr tests back in 48 hrs, it varies depending on how slammed the place is but all the pcr tests I have had done the fastest I ever had results was 3 days the longest was 7 but the home tests you get the results in like 15 min (but those are not as accurate as a pcr test I have heard)

Got it! My PCR tests have always come back by the next day, however, thats because I go before they're even open so I'm one of the firsts. Therefore, I will most likely require the Rapid Test. I considered the Home Kits but there's just too much room for error.

My venue is not requiring testing, I am. I'm not sure how to go about results as of yet, right now I'm thinking just emailing results. I've looked into third-party testing but it is very expensive.

I had to test weekly for my job up until a couple of months ago. They had a Google form where you could submit your name, date of test, a picture of the results, etc, and then all of the information was compiled in one place for them. That could be an option, all you’d have to do is share a link to the Google form and guests could submit the information.

Do you happen to have an example of the form? Or any information on where I can find it

We required testing. We asked within 72 hours, but most people did at home tests the morning of! At the door, they were greeted and asked if they recieved a negative test, and showed a picture. We also had extra tests at the venue for if anyone didn't have their results (but didn't need to use any, everyone had their result and no issues!)

Ok! I’m glad that went smoothly, my only concern was the room for error with the at home tests. My planner did suggest it so maybe I’ll keep that option open and maybe just add it to my FAQs where At Home Tests will be allowed. Where did you guys get the extra?

Sensitivity and specificity of home rapid tests are fine for asymptomatic persons. If someone is symptomatic they can test twice within 48 hours, the last morning of your wedding. Most home kits provide 2 tests for 2 time points.

There's some error with self testing, but I strongly believe this is about mitigating risk to the best of our abilities without causing major inconvenience. And honestly there is no way to completely eliminate risk without asking all guests to get tested and quarantine. I should also mention 98% of our guests were vaccinated, most were boosted too.
Anyway, we just picked up 2-4 sets of tests from pharmacies each time we could. We ended up with about 25 boxes (50 tests) at the venue and used none, but it made us feel better and now we are just reselling them.

If you’re making people take covid test before going to your wedding don’t expect many people to show. It’s not because they don’t want to, but it’s very difficult to get seen for those type of test, at least where I live; most places are booked weeks out. If you’re really nervous about it, maybe think about just having close family and friends. Because even if a person do have covid sometimes they won’t get a positive until a couple days later. I know that happened to me when I caught it. Whatever you decide to do, good luck.

Not sure where you live, but in Cali we do things differently. I literally checked places like CVS and Walgreens just to test out the procedure and they all had numerous same day appointments at various locations. And we are also accepting home kits. Besides, our stand by list is so long…whoever decides not to come, I’m sure those waiting for a spot will be happy to jump on that opening.

Also, this post was to provide solutions. But thanks for your well wishes.

Yea here in Ohio it’s still packed. It’s definitely better then when we first started, but still very much packed. We do have the kits you can buy or you can go to a library and get some for free. And wow a stand by list?? Ok superstar I’m trying to get like y’all 🤩and you’re welcome.

Ok yeah I figured, Cali is always so left that sometimes things actually work out. But honestly, people just want to be regular again so I think that has a lot to do with the open testing availability right now. Plus our at home it’s are free per household. There’s also options to purchase extra which I see someone else did just to have at the door. I’m not familiar with the test but seems pretty straightforward. My thing is, everyone will know well in advance. So if there’s any issues we can just move to the next person, or even downsize. We initially wanted 100 guests. I had to cut it off at 120 because it was just too much. The rest had to be put on standby. At the end of the day, everyone just can’t come….

Oh trust me I understand. I envy people that has that many supporters. I’m only having about 10-15 but I’m ok with that because I know those people really care about me ❤️But because we’re having a destination wedding people have to test anyways to get on the plane. But I hope everyone test negative and you can get most people to come.

At least you know those 10-15 are solid! I rather pay for 15 people who will be there than 100 and have no shows!

But yes, a destination wedding is definitely one way to guarantee testing! Have fun girl! And Congratulations!!!!!
