Covid-19

I’m struggling here! We have planned a wedding for October 24 and I’m afraid I’m going to have to postpone because of Covid... is anyone else worried about this?? Do I keep it scheduled and wait?

    Hi and welcome!

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this.

It's all going to depend on where you are, how many people you have on the guest list, and how your state is handling things. Honestly, it's unlikely that large groups will be a good idea for the rest of the year in the majority of the country - unless you are someplace that's warm and you are having an outdoor reception.

The best advice we have is: Have a Plan B, be flexible, and don't make decisions until you *have* to.

This is a common question on WW these days.

We are also in October, but we aren’t postponing and will only do so if our venue cancels us. So, we’re moving forward with our plans and will abide by the state’s guidelines for the number of guests, etc. etc. at that time. We only have 65 invited guests, so we will cut the number down if necessary (no big deal since everyone is fully aware of COVID-19 restrictions. Plus 100% probably couldn’t have attended anyway). We also have a Plan B if the venue cancels their October events. But the way I see it.... unless couples plan to postpone until late 2022 or 2023, then moving the date only a few months back isn’t going to make a huge difference right now.
I’m probably one of the few who is still excited about everything, because the wedding is still going to be a great time regardless. Sure, we have to add in a few creative touches to make everything covid-friendly. But, I think it makes the wedding that much more special and memorable.

I am getting married on October 24, 2020, too! We are just going to wait until August or even September to decide what we are going to do. I am a little worried, but the way things are opening up where I am from it looks like we are going to be able to have it! Maybe have a backup plan just in case. I'm trying to keep my hopes up and keep planning for October 24. Hopefully, everything will get better and we can all get married as planned! Hopes this helps! Good Luck!

Ours Is October 17th And We're Moving Forward As Planned. We Will Only Postpone If The Venue Makes Us But Things Are Looking Good For Us Thus Far. I Think It's Too Early To Make A Decision, Which State Are You In && How Many Guests Are You Inviting? That Plays A Big Factor.

We're planning for 10/10 and have no intentions of postponing. We're planning a destination wedding in the Keys and currently they are on track to reopen next Monday. I believe even if their are restrictions in place, we should be fine as our guest count is less than 50 and it will be outdoors.

Not sure where you are located, but much of the world is reopening and getting back on track. I truly believe in my heart of hearts that even if there is a second wave of this virus, the world will not shut down again. I think things will just run its course. Have faith and believe. I know it will all work out.

We are getting married on 10/10, and I am freaking out, but have no intention of postponing right now. I will wait until August. However, I have family and even BMs stressing me out about it. 10/10/20 is a very meaningful day for us so it would really suck if we have to postpone. I would wait until August to decide. Good luck!

I just postponed to October 2021 this week. Honestly just iffy with how many guests I can have and what the restrictions would be with masks and social distancing. Also don't want my older guests to feel nervous to attend. I know I just feel better not having to worry and we're gonna have a small ceremony on our original 10/17 date. Do what is best for you and what you want for your wedding!

I would hold for as long as you feel comfortable doing so, but start mentally preparing for having to postpone. I just postponed till the next year and it stung a bit at first, but I am currently happier with that decision.

What I have come to realize is that there is no bad decision. You will make the best decision for you. Whether that is a small ceremony, postponement, or splitting the ceremony from the reception. There are so many options to consider. Having a plan "b" is totally needed and will likely place your mind at ease and give you a sense of security especially during an uncertain time.

Our wedding was planned for November but we had over 150 guests on our list. We just made the decision to postpone until 2021. We opted to make this decision now to better plan and try and secure all of our vendors for the new date.

I'm a 10.10.20 bride also and am growing more and more concerned as the days go by. My wedding is in SC, indoors, and we had planned for at least 150 guests...all of them out of towners and majority elderly. I don't want to postpone, however, also don't want any of my family to feel worried about traveling or being in a large group.

Ours is Oct 24th as well. We are going as planned as we have OOT guests coming. If it comes down to it and the Venue cancels on us we will go with plan B. Its stressful as so many people are unsure what is going on.

I’m in Southwest Virginia (we have only had 51 cases here)... we’ve just started phase 1 (I think, because this whole thing confuses me lol)... our venue holds 350, but we should only have 50-75 attend, which is less than half capacity for the venue... I’m hoping things get better by then!

Since you're in an area that doesn't have a lot of cases AND you have at most 25% of the venue capacity, you're probably okay as long as you're willing you make a few changes (provide hand sanitizer, don't hug everyone).
But, think about what you would do if you had to change it. That way, if at any point you start to not feel okay about it, it will be easier to make changes and be happy with them.

I would recommend waiting but it probably depends on your state. I know the state I'm in is opening to yellow. You could see what your wedding would look like in yellow and green phase.
