covid Anniversary Trip

OldSchoolKindaLove, on July 16, 2020 at 12:17 PM Posted in Married Life 0 10

I know this is crazy, but my husband and I want to celebrate our 2nd Anniversary by going on a trip because we didn't celebrate our first anniversary. We have decided to take a full week this year for our anniversary which is the end of September. We have heard from friends and family that we are crazy for traveling during COVID, but it's what is best for us as a couple. Do you have any suggestions of places to look at? Thanks in advance.

Do you have an idea of where you want to go? Which State?

I would try to go to someplace where you can drive. I would also make sure you check all restrictions for wherever you are going ahead of time. Some areas are scaling back on opening and some have even closed things down again.

We live in Alabama, which things have gotten crazy around here. Ideally I would love to visit somewhere out west, California, Las Vegas, Colorado, Yellowstone, etc. Of course I am always up for a trip anywhere tropical/beach.

I would just be sure to prep and be careful wherever you go. Some place that has many outdoor things to do would be nice because you wouldn't have to worry about social distancing!

My hubby and I had to cancel our 1 year wedding anniversary trip to Europe after the whole Covid-19 situation. We were bummed out and decided to look into other places, we live in California and let me tell you things here are not looking great, everything was just shut down again and there is not much hope in sight. I've given up trying to return to a regular social life because my mother lives with me and has a compromised immune system so my hubby and I started doing a lot of research. We are actually thinking about going to Cancun, the way they are treating everything is above and beyond. Things that we here in the states are not even thinking about doing, the hotels there are operating at a 30% capacity as well as all of the activities, at least those that are open. The big thing here is the flight which we did more research on, many airlines have stopped booking at a certain capacity as of July 1st. For our honeymoon last year we decided to get the Delta American Express card to book our trip, earn miles and use our vacation card. Delta is continuing their capacity at 50% for first class so 8 out of the 16 seats will be occupied and 60% in economy until September 30th, 2020. We found some amazing flights for 1st class at about $300 one way for each of us leaving 9/22 and returning 9/29, literally the day before the resume regular capacity. Of course we have insurance and Delta has free rebooking for us too, yes it sounds like we're crazy but if we take absolutely every precaution then its the same thing we do on our every day life anyway. I am an essential worker as a property manager and my husband as an engineer so we have not stopped working so we're already being put at a higher risk by having to continue to work. I work in a building in Beverly Hills that has multiple doctors offices which have remained open, there have been positive covid-19 tests from people who work in my building and we're still here. Upon our return my mom would visit with my sister for the two week after I've arrived so I think I am being as safe as I possibly can during this time. You just need to do some research and see what you can still do wherever you'd consider traveling to. California however, I'd keep a good eye before you book anything, we had to close so much back up that things are back to looking grim.

Thanks for the insight. We are also essential workers, so therefore we have been going non-stop. It's beginning to take a toll on our mental health which is why we decided to take a trip. Delta is my preferred airline, and our trip wouldn't be until the end of September, so 9/26 - 10/3 so I may keep an eye on their capacity. I appreciate your help!

Good Luck and I'm with you, I'm in need of a break from Los Angeles and really just unwind. Hoping we both get the trips we deserve!

Maybe look into an Airbnb or a cabin (or something of that sort) that's got space/land. It's nice because the locations can be beautiful mountains or beaches) and safe if they're wide spread apart without neighbors. Smiley smile GL!

Considering taking a trip to the Florida Keys, as long as there's not a hurricane coming as our anniversary falls during hurricane season. Does anyone have any insight on this? We can make the drive in about 15 hours.
