Covid Bachelorette Trip

Katie, on July 16, 2020 at 10:26 AM Posted in Parties and Events 0 10

Our group booked flights and an airbnb back in March for a long weekend in Lake Tahoe for my bachelorette (we live in NC). With everything going on, I'm feeling very uneasy about traveling on a plane/through airports. One of my bridesmaids is pregnant and I worry that it puts her at more risk as well. I've tried having honest conversations with each girl and so far, everyone has been OK with moving forward. We weren't planning on clubbing/partying much anyway, just hiking, hanging out at our cabin, cooking, and going out to the lake. My MOH would lose a lot of money if we cancelled the trip, but I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. Is anyone else in a similar situation or have any advice? Is air travel really that dangerous right now? We would absolutely bring sanitizing wipes, masks, and take all the precautions we can throughout the trip.

I have to air travel for my best friends wedding and bachelorette too simply cause she lives out of state from me and all my friends told me air travel is considered a higher risk activity. I mean that’s kinda why everyone thus far has had limitations on indoor activities vs outdoor activities cause we can’t space out inside of an airplane and everyone is just in such close quarters. I know airlines have been making a greater attempt to clean and sanitizer and what not but I think it’s cause everyone is packed so tightly that it’s considered a big risk.

FYI some airlines like southwest are saying they’re not going to seat people in middle seats til sept 30 to allow more spacing so that helps a little but even then that’s not a whole lot of space

Have you looked into what NC rules are for traveling out of state? I only ask because I live in a state where if you travel to certain places, you have to quarantine for two weeks when you return. Other than that, trust that all your girls are making the choice that’s right for them.

We have to fly to our bachelorette trip Labor Day Weekend. I am not too worried about it. I have to work from home when I get back, but my company is okay with it, thankfully. I too am worried people aren't being honest with us, but all you can do is trust that people are doing what's best for them.

If you insist on moving forward with it, I would make sure every member quarantines for 2 weeks before and after the trip. IMO your BM who is pregnant really shouldn't be traveling by plane at this time. 6 feet spacing is in no way possible on a plane.

I think as long as you take proper Covid guideline measures, you’ll be fine. I understand you’re worried about your MOH, but ultimately everyone is an adult and we all have to assess our own safety concerns and decide based off of our own personal situations. I think it’s fine personally, but You may want to self isolate for about 3 days once you get back just to make sure. If you’re that concerned, you could also just get a test after the three days to know for sure.

I had 2 bridesmaids fly in for my bachelorette and they both told
Me they felt extremely safe on the plane. One has extreme
Anxiety with traveling in general and felt so safe she told her husband they should fly for the wedding.

The airport can be crowded, which I think is a valid concern, but planes have very high quality air filters that reduce the spread of germs through the air. Also, you might be lucky to end up on a near-empty flight because nobody is traveling. I think if your friends are comfortable going, it's not on you to make a decision on their behalf. If YOU are not comfortable going, you should say so and maybe split the losses with the MOH

Tahoe is seeing a huge spike in cases recently and on the California side all restaurants/bars are shut down. It’s up to you and each girl on what you feel comfortable with!

We had the same expectations and just cancelled my tahoe bachelorette yesterday. Just seems too risky at this point and California is not doing well. My MOH reached out to the air bnb host who gave her a full refund if we decided by yesterday to cancel.

Yeah I’m losing steam and not feeling very confident about anything anymore 😔 I think I’ll have her reach out to the Airbnb host again to see if we have that option or not.
