Covid Brides: Have you switched from an indoor venue to an outdoor?

Kyna, on January 4, 2021 at 9:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 7
Wondering if anyone ended up deciding to switch venues from an indoor to an outdoor or indoor/outdoor venue due to COVID. Even if you are several to a few months out. Curious how that process went, how you felt after you changed venues, etc. We are June 2021, and pretty close to changing venues to an outdoor tented reception (not a backyard wedding, but similar), because our current reception is inside. We aren't being forced to change the venue right now, but we feel like we are currently in limbo with safety concerns and restrictions and aren't really planning. With hopes that a vaccine does help improve some things (we know restrictions will still be in place), we still feel like we can actually plan with an outdoor venue being a little more certain and safer. Curious if anyone did something like this and changed their wedding venue, and how it went/how you felt! At this point, we'd be pretty much replanning, booking all new vendors because we are going from a full-service indoor venue to an outdoor, custom venue. We are still nervous about restrictions in June, but trying to stay hopeful!

Our big wedding is in March and we still plan to have an indoor wedding. We definitely cut our guest list to about 80 guests for right now. We will also be taking Covid precautions. Maryland weather is iffy so I wouldn't plan an outdoor wedding in March.

Hi Kyna, I was originally going to wed indoors June 2020, but postponed to August 14th 2020 outdoors. Same reception venue (had both indoors/outdoors so switched to outdoor space). The church 3 weeks before informed us indoors was not possible (only parents allowed) so thought we could marry at reception. Long story short, found out 10 days before our wedding space not large enough to add ceremony. Found rooftop tent above our hotel for ceremony and our DJ saved the day providing music for ceremony 🥰

If possible, see if vendors needed are available before you move it outdoors. Many brides did this last summer and seemed glad they did. I know we were thrilled at the end result! Good luck girlie on whatever you decide ❤️❤️❤️

I know that as a guest I would not feel comfortable attending an indoor wedding/reception until at least the Fall of 2021 (plus, county/state restrictions are looser on outdoor venues). I currently will be attending an outdoor wedding in April in a state with leading Covid cases (CA) but never would have if it was indoors. My daughter also recently had her wedding and tented reception outdoors after changing venues. In my opinion, it is the only way to have a ceremony/reception until things return to "normal".

That’s an interesting idea to consider. But Nope! The date is the only thing we changed. However, I’ve never liked outdoor weddings/receptions. So that wouldn’t even be a “Plan Z” idea for me. Lol!

With new leadership happening very soon, I'm anticipating that the covid mandates will be instructed federal wide and will be super strict, putting even more bars and restaurants out of business. I didn't want to take any chances and changed my venue to be outside in a park.

Thank you! We ended up officially moving our venue to all outdoors but will keep the guest list still small, focus on social distancing, masks, etc. And all of our vendors were willing to make the change work!
