Has anyone recently changed their name through the social security office since the shut down? I know you can submit it through the mail but didn't know what all to send! Thanks!Covid name change 1

    I did. I called to ask specifically what I would have to mail in. I sent the application, certified copy of the marriage certificate and a form of ID. They said it didn’t have to be your drivers license but it could be an employee ID, insurance card, passport etc. But I would call your local office and ask because it might differ! It took about 3-4 weeks to get my new social security card in the mail. They mailed my stuff back to me.

    I'm in NJ and sent my marriage certificate in and filled out the application online. Took 7 weeks to get the new one.
