Covid Testing on a holiday

Jei, on April 27, 2021 at 6:49 AM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hello,
Not sure if anyone knows this answer but I have a question for those who have needed to take a covid test 3 days prior to traveling internationally. I'm getting married in June, in my 3 days where I need to take my covid test happens to fall on Memorial Day. Since this is a US holiday, I'm concerned that I won't have my results back in time for my fight. Business or the lab in my case, may be closed or processing results may be delayed, due to the holiday. Has anyone encountered this, and if so what did you do to ensure the results were back in time?

Will they accept a rapid test? I know they're less accurate, but you'd get the results back within a few hours, max.

Have you checked to see if your airline and/or departure airport offer acceptable testing? I read an article that mentioned that's becoming more common -- especially for international flights -- to help ensure passengers don't run into logistical issues. Unfortunately, one of the recommendations in the article was to not schedule flights early in the week to avoid trying to get results over a weekend.... Smiley sad Good luck figuring out your plan!

It's my understanding that the US accepts rapid tests when you're coming back from abroad, is that no longer the case? We plan on going away over the memorial day weekend as well, and had planned to do a rapid test.

Edit: I just reread it, I'm guessing the country you are going to requires the test prior to entrance.

Is it the airline, or the country you are going to with the restriction?

I am afraid I don't have much advice - my husband and I just took "3 day" COVID tests, and didn't get the results back for 8 days. Not even a holiday, just "an increase in testing has led to delays."

Perhaps consider getting tests from more than one place? It may increase the likelihood you will get at least one set of results in time.
