covid wedding plans

Elba, on July 11, 2020 at 1:14 AM Posted in Community Conversations 1 11
Hi everyone,
So I’m sure like many weddings were cancelled or postponed. Me and my fiancé have been together for 17 years and have attempted to get married twice. This time around (before the pandemic) we said there is nothing stopping us and we didn’t even buy insurance for our travel because we said “nothing is stopping us” then the pandemic hit. We are in the process of planning yet another wedding does anyone have any advice or have had a wedding post the start of COVID?

Hi Elba, awww 17 years!! congratulations! I'm so sorry that you guys are going through this. I know that you guys will have a magical wedding when the time comes. I hope its soon !Smiley cry On that note my FH and I started checking everything our vendors and seeing if changing the date was available without any fees and all funds could be transferred due to the pandemic. My advice would be to do that. Also decide if you want to change the style and size of your wedding and see what would be the next availability date for your wedding.

Do it regardless that is what I am doing as well. It will work itself out no matter if it is big or small as long as you both are there that is all that matters.

Girl, I hear ya! By the time my then fiancé asked, we were together for 6 years already. At the same time we had a family death, so I was so sad that I didn’t want to plan anything. He then said, “Why don’t we go down the courthouse and have the wedding part later?” I agreed it was a good idea. So we eloped Nov 2019. Then we planned for 05/02/20 and that didn’t happen. And we tentatively moved it to 10/03/20. Technically this would be our third attempt. Lol!
With everything going on, people are having small weddings with people not feeling comfortable mingling. So it’s probably worth it for us to spend all this money, when it’s not going to be fun party. We’re going to have small ceremony with just our parents. I would feel weird inviting everyone (immediate family) and no reception.
So in the end, I do feel sad. It is what it is. I just don’t want to go through this stress again. So I had to come to terms with it. I’m glad that we did eloped. It took so much pressure off me. I wish you guys the best of luck!

I'm in the same boat. My FH and I have been together for 14 years and this is our 3rd attempt to be wed. Last year was postponed due to a fire at our home. This year covid. Our original date was June 4, 2020. I'm now getting married in 10 days on July 24th and WE agree NOTHING will stop us! I am beyond over changing plans I just want to be married to the man that heart beats in the same rhythm as mine. As long as me, him and our kids are there no one else matters! Besides the officiant of course...lol. Good Luck!

You're definitely not alone Elba! ❤️ Are you now planning for April 2021 now? And have you thought about getting married now and just postponing the big reception for later? Some couples are choosing that option!

We had plans for 120+ wedding in Colorado and another in Switzerland with family and friends flying in from all over. We postponed those til 2021 but we’re thinking of cancelling the Colorado one since we had a perfect little backyard wedding already here with most everyone we really wanted there. Our guest list was set up so that it was mostly family first for the ceremony, some fam left after dinner and more friends came to join us later in the night. We also set up a zoom so friends and family could watch virtually and that was a huge success! We provided bandanas for face covers and pocket size hand sanitizers for everyone among other safety precautions like servers for food and drinks and staying outside for the party. It was amazing to see the whole family come together to pull it off and at the end of the day what’s important is your marriage not how many people are there to watch.

Thank you everyone for your support and advice. We are in the process of looking at our wedding size as we know some may cancel or unfortunately be unable to attend. I love the face coverings and hand sanitizer ideas. Should we reduce the size of our party. I know many may cancel I also don’t want to risk anyone health/ safety. It’s been a roller coaster as we were planning on having our second child after the wedding in April.

We are thinking about eloping and not telling anyone keeping it to us on the date we got engaged so that’s in the works but in NY there is a lot of restrictions on obtaining a marriage certificate we have been trying since April. Thank you for the article.

How was the overall vibe of the wedding you did in Colorado? We’re people nervous?

It was 3 weeks ago so the cases weren’t as bad as they are now but they were just starting to rise. I think we’re kind of at that stir crazy point where we are ready to let lose and celebrate since we’ve been cooped up in our homes for so long. My family and friends were happy to be there and celebrate with us regardless, even his 95yo grandma didn’t want to leave. We were like 35 at most at a time there which made it easy for us to spend time with all of our guests individually which was nice. The hand sanitizers everywhere, masks, outdoors and servers made everything a little safer for us all. We also made sure that if anyone was sick they didn’t come and could watch on zoom instead. Our zoom call was such a hit I highly recommend you set one up for your guests who can’t be there in person. I wish you the best wedding day!!
