Covid

Kelli, on June 15, 2021 at 4:37 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 11

We wanted our honeymoon to be in Riviera Maya, but we are scared of going and then on return having a positive covid test. Then be stuck. For what, fourteen more days? Who would pay for that? Us. No, to big of a risk. So, America honeymoon destinations. Not Florida. I live too close and go often. I was thinking Las Vegas or Santa Monica.

We did Sandals in Jamaica. We’ve both been vaccinated & the requirement is having a negative test done 72 hours prior to landing- also 72 hours before we come home. They have vacation insurance which Sandals kicked in at no cost to us. In the event that we tested positive while there they covered our extra days plus any costs the airline might give us for rebooking. That was a huge weight off our shoulders!

My coworker is going to Mexico next month and the resort he is staying at has the same COVID insurance policy as what Michelle described above. Maybe something to look into.

As for US vacation spots, what are you looking for? A resort experience with beautiful scenery and pampering? Going out on the town and exploring? Hiking or outdoors activities?

^^^We did Sandals St. Lucia and the same thing. It really wasn’t that hard to get tested before leaving and before coming back to the US. We had the BEST honeymoon and I can’t even wait to go back!!

But, if you’re hung up on staying in the US, and want something low key, do southern Maine! It’s BEAUTIFUL in the summer and all the lobster you can eat!!! 🦞

I live in California and work near Santa Monica where there is a huge homeless population and tons of people who do not wear a mask and are not vaccinated, there is a huge rat problem by the Santa Monica pier, they are everywhere at night. Las Vegas lifted their restrictions already as well, if I'm not mistake, masks haven't bene required for a bit now. Since Covid hit I have traveled to Cancun and specifically Riviera Maya(Xcaret Hotel September, 2020) and Playa del Carmen (TRS Yucatan, April-May, 2021). I felt so much safer at these places than I did back at home. For starters they test people everywhere for temperature and provide free covid tests that you take a few days before you leave. The rooms are all disinfected and vacant for 24 hours before you arrive, the capacity is way down to avoid large amounts of people. Capacity was maybe at 30% which meant empty pools, activities and restaurants. The staff was always wearing masks and phenomenal at making you feel safe. We opted for private transportation both times we went and flew early morning and first class. This allowed us to be at the airport when it was not full and gave us extra room in the plane to not be squished next to a stranger. I know it sounds a little crazy but the Cancun area including Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya, Zona Hotelera they depend so heavily on tourism and are trying their hardest to maintain their work places open to continue working. Many of the workers are also unvaccinated since the country is getting vaccines at a slower rate so they are doing everything in their power to stay healthy and continue working. I wouldn't necessarily consider coming to California as a safer option than heading out to the Riviera Maya, as long as you wear masks when necessary and keep your distance from others which isn't too hard you should be fine. Just saying, its such a beautiful place.

Oh thank you. I will check on room insurance like Michelle said. I wanted the Excellence resort in Riviera Maya. I just don't want to get stuck there...

Oh thank you, honestly I wanted a plunge pool or swim up suite in Riviera Maya. Just got scared of being stuck there.

If the U.S. I want somewhere I have not been and not near me. I am in Alabama. He will not hike. I took him on some and thats a no. But we like slingshot rentals, 4 wheelers, pools, entertainment but romantic aspects as well.

For California, I recommend Catalina Island. That’s where I’m going Smiley smile Santa Monica (I live near and work there) is not incredibly romantic and I don’t think you would get that relaxing honeymoon you’re looking for. Catalina Island is really beautiful and has a lot to do. Not a lot of the hotels have pools or anything, but the beaches are really pretty and it’s a very relaxing atmosphere. I have also heard Mexico is taking COVID very seriously, so I wouldn’t worry too much.

Hi Kelli, the Excellence brand resorts (which are amazing, I went to El Carmen in Punta Cana for my honeymoon and absolutely LOVED it) offer free PCR tests and free stay in rooms on their resort as well. You can see their Covid protocols here: https://www.theexcellencecollection.com/coronavirus-travel-information/?_ga=2.12459825.465291510.1623847246-731624529.1623847246
