crazy flatware dilema

Maya, on April 29, 2012 at 3:21 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 13

We are having a diy wedding and reception. the location is poolside at my home. We are on a pretty tight budget so I'm spending the real money where it counts. However I want real dishes I am renting nice dishes(plates) I was goinong to rent glasses as was able to find a great sale were I was buying for a cheaper price then rental. So now the issue of flatware to rent is 1.50 per set (fork, knife, spoon) and I have 150 guests. I would hate to spend 225.00 on rental silveware any suggestions??

    Honestly, being poolside- wouldn't do real dishes. You can get nicer plastic stuff from places like Smarthadaparty and not risk someone dropping them. I know it's at your home, but glassware and pool really don't go well together. I'd save the money there.

    If you want to buy rather than rent stainless steel flatware, here are some links:

    * Forks, $1.69 a dozen

    * Knives, $3.19 a dozen

    * Spoons, $1.14 a dozen

    Thus, the total cost of all three would be about $0.50 per place setting, rather than $1.50, even if you didn't bother to resell them.

    These are far from high end flatware. They are pretty much equivalent to what you'd get in a diner. But they are real stainless. So it's up to you how much you are willing to spend for higher quality flatware.

    I wouldn't do real anything poolside; no one will expect that (especially glass....). The only think I might consider is real plates, just because plastic plates are kind of hard to eat from.

    Ooh pretty site!! I know for a fact that have some nice flatware... i mean yea its plastic but one caterer told me, that not many care if what they are eating with and on, is plastic or glass.. they just want to eat. I know BJs has silver flatware that's plastic, but its thicker and looks real. Maybe you can go that route.. it was like 10 bucks for sets of 48 i believe, 48 forks, spoons and knives... idk... spending that kinda money on flatware is ridonkulolus

    We did the real flatware, even though we had the nice plastic plates and plastic glassware, just because we were concerned about plastic flatware breaking. YMMV, of course.

    I did like Lovebride did and bought all of mine. However with that said, despite my general dislike of plasticware, poolside seems like the most logical place for plasticware.

    Reflections silverware..its plastic silverware but it looks real. You can find it anywhere but if you have a Costco membership you can buy it in bulk and save money.

    Walmart sells bundles of 4 forks or knives or spoons for about a dollar a bundle. definitely not the fanciest silverware, but it isn't plastic

    I think it would be great if you could just buy it. Discounted, maybe - like what lovebride did. Then you could keep some of it if you needed/wanted it and sell the rest of it.

    I will be doing all disposable stuff.. might look tacky, but I cant afford not to. These were the cheapest "reflections" I could find.. if anyone finds them cheaper let me know!
