Creative Ideas for a Pre-wedding Welcome Party?

Hi all! My fiancé and I are getting married next June in Portugal, in an intimate (50ish guests) ceremony and reception.


Because it’s a destination wedding and most people won’t have met each other before the big day, we wanted to host some sort of pre-wedding get-together/welcome party the day before.
However, we’re also trying to be conscious of our budget, and a traditional welcome dinner is both a bit boring to us, as well as pricy for that many guests.
So, we’re crowdsourcing fun, creative ideas for our pre-wedding welcome party! Any and all suggestions welcome/appreciated! 😺

    We are doing a buffet for our welcome dinner and doing more heavy apps and high top tables. Also doing beer and wine instead of full bar to save costs. You could make it festive and cultural to highlight the location of the wedding!

    Do a welcome party and just serve apps and drinks. No need for a full dinner. Beer and wine would be totally fine if you don't want to have a full bar!

    Hey Kate! Portugal must be such a beautiful destination for a wedding! What made you and your FS decide to get married there?

    I definitely think that something simple will be perfect for a welcome party, so having drinks and appetizers would be perfect as it makes it easy for everyone to mingle.

    Are you able to have your welcome party at your venue?

    Will you be staying in house or a hotel? We are staying in a cottage with Air BNB and hosting a drinks and app's style get together at the house after the rehearsal dinner. If you are in a hotel you could see about everyone getting together at a local place for a couple drinks and mingling.
