Cricut machine..

LizS2485, on October 16, 2015 at 1:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 30

Does anyone have one and used it for wedding stuff? My friend offered to let me borrow hers but I don't really know much about it. She said her brother made all his invitations using one which would be awesome but I want to make sure they don't look "cheap".

Cricut is pretty awesome. I've been contemplating on buying one, but they're around $200.

They're great because you can make vinyls and use them on everything (signs, glass, wood, shirts, etc)

That's what she was telling me and I was excited! I didn't know if anyone had an example of something they made with one!

I haven't used one, but it's awesome that they can do vinyl. My STDs were vinyl which I think was a cool alternative to a magnet.

I was really wanting one when it came time to do signage for things, like reserved seating signs and stuff.

Pick me, Pick me!! I own a Cricut Explore and it completely changed how I did my wedding projects. We were able to save so much $$$ that we would have spent on places like etsy. We made everything from our invite embellishments, to personal/custom wedding signs, personalized gifts for everyone etc.

If anyone has any questions please let me know, I would love to help! Depending if your borrowing or buying, I highly suggest the Cricut Explore Air. This is the machine that cuts anything from paper to vinyl to leather etc. It's the best bang for your buck and you won't regret it.

Also, never having to spend $8-10 on a greeting card since has been so amazing and everyone loves the personal touch.

    They are amazing.

My mom and MIL have one. They use them for everything. We used it to make all the props for our showers photo booth. Everyone wanted to know where we bought the props. They make really nice stuff.

OOOh! I love those Goosie. I've been looking at getting a Cricut for a while. I have a cuttle bug and I've never used it because it's all manual. Cricut is through the computer, right?

I use a Silhouette Studio instead and I like it better because the software is kind of like using publisher. I used it to make my own labels in pretty shapes for STDs and invitations, cut fabric out in our monogram and sewed it onto a pillow for ring pillow, make Bridesmaids proposal gift, menu cards, escort cards, stenciled to glass etching for toasting glasses, banners, signs, iron on transfers for totes for bridesmaid gifts, program, bridesmaids and MOB shirt, and I'm sure there was more. I think with cutting tools, there is definitely a learning curve so you might want someone to help you first but you can definitely do a lot of crafts, save a lot of time, and make them look like you bought them.

@Bethie First of all, cuttlebugs are amazing but generally used for embossing (making pretty patterns on cards) and cutting out shapes. I love mine, but it works hand in hand with my Cricut.

As for Cricut, it's all done through the free program called Design Space. It's great because it's constantly being updated with new features and new ways to craft. Also, it's super user friendly once you get started.

I bought one based off of some reviews I read from other WW brides. I have only had it for about a month. I used it to make vinyl monograms and to add polka dots to an umbrella. I plan to use it to monogram our centerpieces and maybe to make bridal party t-shirts.. You will definitely get your money's worth if you use it for wedding projects. And you can always use it for non wedding projects. There are so many things you can do with it.

I can't decide between a Cricut and Silhouette. I searched here (like a good WW newbie!) and read an old there where people said the Silhouette was better. But looking at the pics of things Goose&Bear made, the Cricut looks pretty amazing! Ugh so many decisions.

Cricut is amazing. I can tell you first hand I did a ton of research on both and the Cricut won in so many ways. Not only is it constantly evolving in terms of upgrades and what you can do, the support for learning is incredible! I also think you get more bang for you buck by going for Cricut in the long run, even if you pay a little more then you would for a Silhouette.

@2YearsAway - Team Silhouette! You can use all your own fonts already installed on your computer. For my Bridesmaids and kids gifts I was making tote bags with quotes personalized to each person. I literally found a quote, went on Pinterest and found a unique font to match the quote (RB got a quote from Superman and I found a comic style font) and just downloaded it to my computer-and it was automatically usable in my Silhouette software! Also I love getting shapes from online and using the trace and cut tool. I even was able to put my university mascot on cups and stuff.
