Cruise for Honeymoon?

FutureMrsR, on January 2, 2017 at 5:09 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 23

FH mentioned today that it might be fun to go on a cruise for our honeymoon! Neither of us have ever been on one, so I'm just looking for some general advice and opinions on the topic. We have tons of time to decide and aren't looking to book any time soon, I'm just entertaining the idea for now! Smiley smile

E.g., what are some pros and cons of a cruise honeymoon? How soon in advance should one book for the cheapest price? He works at Costco, so we'll go through Costco Travel for cheaper (not sure if that makes a difference in your answers). Anything else we should know?

Thanks in advance!

We were thinking of a cruise too. I don't know which is nicer, the Bahamas or the Caribbean

We did a Royal Caribbean cruise and loved it. We booked in July of 2015 though, and took it in October 2016. At time of booking rooms were limited so the sooner the better.

If you've never been on one, I'd be weary unless you know for a fact you don't get motion/sea sick. I've witnessed many people on cruises becoming very ill and spending the majority of their trip with their heads in the toilet.

    That being said....

IF you do decide to do a cruise, I highly recommend Royal Caribbean cruise lines. Bermuda is a great destination if you're not looking for a super long cruise and want to stay in one location. We're personally considering an Eastern Caribbean cruise.

For vacations, I love cruises and have been on quite a few. My FH and I went on a cruise this year together and had tons of fun. It was his first and although he really enjoyed himself, he was sick as dog the first two days. If he were to go again, which is likely, he would probably go to his doctor first to see what they can prescribe for sea sickness. The Dramamine didn't do much for him

There was a post on this yesterday that you might be able to find by scrolling back, it had some good advice in it. I love cruises. We did a European river cruise last year that was extremely romantic and enjoyable. I loved being able to sail to different towns, sights, and countries and not having to pack and repack. We are spending three weeks in Europe for our honeymoon, one week is a cruise from Venice to Croatia that we booked through Costco Travel.

FH and I are taking a cruise for our honeymoon and I am so excited! He's been before but I've never been on one so that makes me even more excited! Like @Kathleen said Royal is the way to go, that's what we're doing. Also booking sooner rather than later is a good idea because you have a better chance of getting a room plus booking excursions cause they can book up quickly depending on what you want to do.

The bigger the ship the less you feel the movement. We just went on a Royal Caribbean cruise over thanksgiving and it was a blast!

Cruises are awesome. It's an all inclusive way to have a vacation and it's easy on the budget. I went on one last year and loved it. The FH and I will be going on one for our honeymoon in about 3 months. We are excited. It would be a good idea to take some Dramamine with you. I've never gotten seasick and ended up getting sick the first night. After the Dramamine it was easy peasy. Do some research on independent activities you can do at the ports. Sometimes you can get a good deal doing those. Good luck!

We did a Carnival Cruise for our 5 year dating anniversary, it was a week long and amazing. We went to the Bahamas. And it came out to be about 500$ for the both of us. Not including our flights or alcohol we bought on deck. Recommend getting the alcohol package if you do drink, it would be saved us a ton.

Another thing to do if you've never cruised before is to pick an itinerary with lots of stops so you'll have a good chunk of time on solid ground as well if you aren't sure how you'll handle the open ocean!

I love cruising! We are going to Bermuda on a Celebrity ship for ours. There is plenty of activities on board or you can just relax by the pool or get a spa treatment. I'm a huge fan of sea days because I like to enjoy the ship as well as the ports we stop at. I also recommend the drink packages.

If you are afraid of seasickness ask your doctor to give you an rx for transderm scop patches. You put them behind your ear and change it every three days. If you haven't already check out cruisecritic I get a lot of info from there.

I have been on more than a dozen cruises and been to far away destinations on a cruise. The pros are, you unpack once. All the food is included and you don't have to worry about getting sick eating something from a strange country. Free entertainment and lots of options to keep you busy. You get to see a lot of places in a short period of time. Cons are waiting for the excursions to leave, eating meals on a schedule if you sign up for a specific dinner time. Eating with strangers can be a pro or con. I never get sea sick but some do. Personally I love cruises but it's not for everyone. And you can call me a snob but I would avoid Carnival cruise lines like the plague.

My sister went on one and loved it. They went on the Norwegian breakaway. I'm prone to motion sickness and not a fan of the idea of being in a boat the whole time. That's just me though.

And carnival is honestly the best for your money , some people may not like it because they like stuff in high class. I have been on 3 carnival ships and LOVED every single one of them .

We're doing a cruise for our wedding! I live cruising. There are a million things to do, even if you stay on board during ports. IMO don't pay for an upgraded room as you still get all the amenities and access to the public areas on the ship. We're doing a suite for our wedding as it's also kinda our honeymoon.. but we usually just do an interior room.

We are preferential to carnival because it's cost friendly and still just as awesome as other cruise lines. The dining room meals are excellent and there's tons of buffet options.

We thought about a cruise, but decided against it. We wanted to be able to relax and felt a cruise was a little more fast paced than we would like for our honeymoon. Also, like @kathleen said, many people become sick and we didn't want to take any chances on our honeymoon. We decided to go to sandals and take another cruise sometime down the road

Lots of people love cruises. I hate them. Everything is too crowded, drinks are expensive (some all inclusive cruises don't include alcohol or soda) rooms are tiny. We did an AI resort and it was so much better.

Another snob here... I recommend Princess or Celebrity but NOT Carnival. Too many children on Carnival cruises and the difference in quality is very apparent in the rooms and the food and drinks.
