Cruise or dr

Corine, on January 1, 2020 at 11:02 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 14
My FH and I are thinking of where to go for our Honeymoon and we are running out of time. We just hit 2020 and it's at the 7 month mark (july 19. 2020). I am stressing. Orginally we wanted to go to Greece but money wise we knew it was a no no. So we decided to save and go on our 1 year anniversary or during mid-winter recess 2021.

Now if we go to DR what resort? What to do?

And if we go in a cruise where and what cruise line?

What do you guys recommend?

I have some cruise information for you! I’ve been on two cruises. One was Royal Caribbean and the other was Disney Cruise Line. Both were in the Caribbean area. For my honeymoon I’m going to Alaska with Disney. The Caribbean is probably a cheaper option in terms of places to go. It’s really nice there though! You can do all the beach you want or go explore the town or island you port at. Each ship has their own excursions you can do or you can book them without the ship. I loved Disney. Even though it is a little more kiddish- it’s still very adult. There’s a adult only dining restaurant, adult only pools, the spa. The food is the best food I’ve ever had on a cruise. It’s so delicious. And the staff tries their hardest to cater to you. Royal Caribbean was nice. I didn’t have a bad experience, I just enjoyed Disney wayyyy more. The cabins are smaller than Disney. They had the same breakfast food everyday which annoyed me a bit. But everything was still nice! I just think Disney puts on a better show, food, and services.

We cruised on Carnival in 7/2019. So much fun! So many different options as far as activities on board and what ports you want to visit, depending on where youre sailing from

Thank you. I looked into both and send a long informative message to FH. He's down for the cruise but, scared of the possibility of me getting sea sick because I never went on a boat and often get a motion sick.

My FH is also gets motion sickness. If you do choose to do a cruise my advice is try to get your cabin in the middle of the ship. You won’t feel the rocking as much. Also take some seabands, non drowsy Dramamine, and other medicine for motion sickness with you. They have those on the boat but they are very expensive. You can also talk to your doctor and get a prescribed medication.

Cruises are fun, but not for a honeymoon (sorry - not for anyone to take offense). if you go to the DR, go to the Iberostar Grand in Punta Cana. Excellent!! All inclusive, adults only. Get the Star Prestige package. You will not regret it.

Well thats your opinion! Lots of people go on cruises for their honeymoon.

DR is the last place I would want to go. Not super safe.

There have been quite a few Americans die while visiting DR resorts recently.

Can you elaborate? What are you thoughts on why it’s not a good option for honeymoon? Just curious!

Cruises are great on vacation but offer little privacy and "exclusivity". You are mixed within the many. You tend to get specials/upgrades and more when you are at a resort on a honeymoon versus being on a cruise ship, in the shared space on everyone on the ship. Resort rooms are much nicer, and less trip activity repetition. A ship is only so big. Like being at the mall - you go around it 2-3 times and it becomes repetitive.

Dominican Republic is a level 2 travel advisory right now which puts it the same as a bunch of other countries people don’t think twice about (Spain, Italy, Costa Rica, Belize, the U.K....)The American deaths were all last year and once they were all investigated a bunch were from natural causes. You have to just be careful and smart regardless of where you go. And I wouldn’t consider a cruise to be a bad choice either. It’s a great way to see a bunch of places, there’s tons to do, etc. If you want to go on a cruise, do it. You’ll love it! As far as the motion sickness, look up the Puma Method. You have to pay for it (30 bucks I think for the download) and the video is super cheesy, but the exercises are super effective and as long as you do them will help drastically with the motion sickness
