Cry-proof Makeup?

Delaney, on March 15, 2019 at 11:18 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 32

Hey, everyone!

I'm getting married September 21st, and I'm doing my own makeup to help cut on expenses. Does anyone know of a good foundation, mascara, and lipsticks/stains that stay through pretty much anything? I have oily skin, and foundations like Fenty and Bare Minerals melted off my nose by the end of the day, despite me setting them with both powder and sprays. My fiancé is such a sweetheart, I know I'm going to at least tear up during the ceremony, so I'd really like to still look picture-ready at the end of everything. Help!

I'd suggest using a good primer, and a good setting spray or powder. The setting spray will really help!

Can you post specific recommendations? I'm also doing my own makeup and was looking for what I should put under my foundation.

This is my favorite primer and I think it really helps with redness! https://www.ulta.com/one-step-correct?productId=xlsImpprod2390219&sku=2220677&cmpid=PS_Non!google!Product_Listing_Ads&cagpspn=pla&CATCI=aud-297352281988:pla-78275922870&CAAGID=39549760041&CAWELAID=554654035&catargetid=330000200000962513&cadevice=c&gclid=CjwKCAjwmq3kBRB_EiwAJkNDp3Ingo32Wb2mJ6PxJ9mZMrLRbXyMMusVaJs5lw1jMUFpbbOszwxgoBoCku4QAvD_BwE

You'll have to test a powder vs spray for setting and see what you prefer. I prefer a powder. I use NYX HD studio finishing powder or Too Faced Born This Way!

Hi we are date twins! And i have the same problem. I am definitely going to cry more than once throughout the day! But a good setting spray and waterproof mascara may be all you need!

Right now I'm using Benefit Cosmetics primer, Ciate London setting powder (I got it in my FabFitFun box this spring!), and Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray.

    Aw hi date twin!!!
The waterproof mascara I'll probably end up using (because I've had great luck with it before) is Tarte's Lights, Camera, Splashes. I HAVE cried with that on and it didn't budge!

I have oily skin and the best foundation I have found so far is Tarte Amazonian Clay. Stays on and stays matte all day. I also wear the tarte 10 hour blush. Love them both

I use their blush I got as a birthday gift from Sephora (I think the shade is Partaaay?) and I LOOOVVEE it. I just haven't delved into their foundations for some reason! Hate to ask, but are you also acne-prone? Since I'm oily my skin tends to break out sometimes.

I am prone to break outs and when I switch foundations I always break out a little, so give yourself some adjusting if you plan on using it for the wedding. I got a few transition bumps but then it was all smooth sailing

I have been using Tatcha Silk Canvas and/or Dr. Brandt Pores No More Primer for my combination skin to prevent make-up meltdown for important events. They're pricy but worth it to keep your face on all day

Where do you buy those? I might have to do some investigating to see if I can afford investing!

I definitely plan on trying to get "the" foundation at least a month before the wedding--preferably earlier so my skin can adjust. Thank you so much for your help!

Casey Holmes has oily skin and I think she used either the photofocus by wet and wild or Estée Lauder double wear! Her wedding makeup vid is on YouTube

Tati (YouTube) also made her wedding makeup cry proof and I believe that’s on her channel as well!

I blink a lot and nothing stays put on my eyes so I’ve been worried about not looking like a racoon on my wedding day. Makeup never stays put for me.

I'm planning on doing my own makeup too! I have combination skin so my t-zone is always super shiny and the area around my mouth is dry and flaky. I will be moisturizing religiously and doing facials months before the big day! and Here's what I've concluded so far:

    1. Smashbox photo finish foundation primer

    2. Tarte Amazonian Clay - AMAZEBALLS!

    3. Benefit Stay Don’t Stray 360 Degree Stay Put Eyeshadow Primer

    4. Urban Decay all night setting spray - MAGIC!

    5. Lipstick - Try the 3x-application and blotting trick for stay-all-day lipstick, even if the lipstick already claims to be long-lasting. This is where you apply the first layer, blot with tissue to remove the oils but retain the pigmentation. Then repeat 2 more times.

    6. Don't use sunblock - apparently it leaves your face glowing white in photos

    7. Don't use white setting powder, even the ones that say HD finishing since they leave you with a glowing white face in photos too. Mineral based, sheer powders are best just to set the makeup and reduce shine. Plus, you can reset with more powder throughout the day without looking ghostly pale.

    8. I'm also planning on fake lashes and may opt to not wear any mascara at all! Some fake lashes are very lush so that may be the way to go.

So a lot of the “best products” are “high quality” make up but if you go to sephora or ulta (or any make up store/counter) ask for samples! Tell them what you are looking for and try everything before! I have oily skin too and I love Revlon matte primer with any foundation and Laura Mercier translucent setting powder (apply the setting powder with a damp beauty sponge and it makes your face look like poreclien) and for mascara that still gives volume and lift- Lash Paradise waterproof! Good luck!
