Crying during ceremony/reception

Katelyn, on June 12, 2021 at 2:33 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 26
I’m emotional, all the time. I know I’m going to cry at the ceremony, probably even before & throughout the reception. My mascara will be waterproof. But I don’t know what to do to keep from crying and/or ruining my makeup!! Anyone else worried about this or have any tips?!

I’m extremely emotional too and I barely shed any tears at the ceremony. My suggestion would be to go over your vows constantly and desensitize yourself! That’s what I did. Listen to your wedding song that you’re walking down to and do it over and over again. Visualize all of the people that will be there. Get all of your crying out as much as you need to now. Whale like a little baby in your house envisioning the day. On my wedding day I was so anxious about everything going perfectly that I didn’t even have time to cry lol. I shed a few tears once I heard my husbands vows. He cried more than me haha. And I thought I was going to be the one Niagara Falls out of my eyes the whole time but I wasn’t

I feel you on this. I cry every time I hear my father/daughter song. Like can’t stop crying lol... My husband and I were married last June but due to covid never had a wedding so there’s a lot of emotional stuff building up inside me to this point of our finally wedding with everyone on June 27th on our year anniversary. I never cried once on my actual wedding day but I’m terrified I’m going to be a blubbery mess on the wedding day. We will get through this, and if we cry, we cry!

Get a makeup setting spray to spray over your face. I full on sobbed in the morning because my mom wrote me this letter and my makeup didn't really move (like a little but not very much for how much I cried!). Would highly recommend.

I’m going to get a lash lift and tint because I have never had waterproof mascara work for me.
I’ll also have a bag of touch up stuff off to the side to freshen up.

I get emotional when reading things that tug at my heartstrings, so I'm pretty sure I'll cry when I read my vows, and when FH reads his to me lol!!

I've just been practicing reading them out loud so that I'm desensitized from them. I listen to our ceremony songs a lot as well! I'll be giving my MOH a monogrammed handkerchief that I'm ordering from Esty, so that she can hand it to me if I do start crying lol. Her dress will have pockets, so she can easily hide it!

Honestly, if I cry, then I cry lol. It can't be helped so I might as well embrace it!

It’s an emotional day! I would recommend getting a really good setting spray and have plenty of tissue near by. Above all, enjoy you day tears and all!

That’s such an awesome idea! I’m the same way, anything that’s heartfelt, I cry haha I have been listening to the songs a lot so I get used to them. The only one that really gets me is the daughter/father song

Do you have a setting spray you recommend? I’ve honestly never used setting spray, so I have no idea what is a good brand and what is not.

Sometimes when I’m happy crying it turns to ugly crying so I hope that doesn’t happen!

Aw that's sweet! I already know that I'll start crying when I walk down the aisle lol. I've listened to the song so many times, but I know once I hit that aisle and lock eyes I'm going to cry. It's inevitable hahaha

This is the brand I’ve been using. I have no idea if there are better ones because I never used any before this. I hate to admit, I got it in a fit fab fun box so I gave it a try, before that I never used any, lol.

I cried a few times during mine, and then full on sobbed giving a speech to my husband’s dad. Just let if flow and do not wipe!! Let it dry as is to help avoid smudging. Are you doing airbrush foundation? That can help too.

Completely agree on the setting spray!

and the one Stella posted is excellent - it is so good that it is often used by synchronised swimmers to keep their makeup in place, so you know it's legit, haha!

I also like the urban decay setting spray.

Dab don't wipe! put the tissue at your lash line, under your lashes. this will help to remove the tears without removing your makeup

Yes! It was NYX long lasting setting spray. It was recommended to me by a friend who's really big into dance/musical theater. She says she uses it for shows so she doesn't sweat her makeup off and it really worked for me. Good luck!
