ct weddings - open bar

Krystyna, on October 23, 2018 at 8:19 PM Posted in Connecticut Planning 0 5

We want to have a long reception but aren’t sure what the laws are regarding an open bar. The longest I can find is 5.5 hours. Does anyone know if there is a limit to how long your bar can be open in CT? Or is it town by town?

Your venue should know the answer to this, 5.5 hours is pretty normal for a reception which is probably why you're only finding those hours.

Here's some information about CT liquor laws: https://www.jud.ct.gov/lawlib/law/liquor.htm

Town's typically have their own regulations around gatherings (particularly in towns with colleges)

Most states have laws that control when alcohol can be sold in restaurants and retail establishments. If you use a venue that allows you to use your own vendors, I suppose you could have the bar open all day long, as the booze would already be paid for. Can't help you regarding Connecticut.

Not sure about CT but I know where I live weddings usually end by a certain time because of town noise ordinances, nothing to do with an open bar.

Hi Krystyna! Welcome to WeddingWire and congrats on your engagement!

You received some great feedback here in this thread! Smiley heart Starting by checking on CT's liquor laws, talking to your venue, and with your open bar vendor might help, as they will definitely know the rules with this. Did you book your venue for a specific amount of reception time? Or what is your venue like? As usually the end of reception is also the end of open-bar time.

    Hello Krystyna!

Where you able to find out if there is a limit to how long an open-bar can be running? I believe it may be something that varies town-to-town (or maybe by county?).
