Cupcake amounts with a sweets table

Jac3286, on May 1, 2015 at 12:18 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 16

FH and I plan on having a sweets table instead of a cake. We have the options of having cupcakes, chocolate covered strawberries, donuts, cookies, brownies, cake truffles... And maybe a couple other things I'm totally blanking on. When we were going to do just cupcakes I was planning on having a cupcake for each guest plus several extras in case people wanted extras. Now that we're having a table, do I need a cupcake for every guest? I'd feel horrible if we ran out and everyone didn't get a cupcake, but I also don't want to have an insane amount of leftovers.

I would have enough for each guest, and if there were any leftovers, you could always offer them to anyone who'd like to take them home. That way, you won't be stuck with a million pounds of candy and sweets at your house...LOL! =)

That's what I was thinking. We're having a luncheon the following day so I can take extras to that and also have treat boxes for anyone who wants to take them home. I just wanted to make sure I was crazy Smiley smile

I would do 1 per guest. You can freeze cupcakes too if there's extra. We had lots of extra cake and so my husband and I froze it and when we got back from our honeymoon we brought the cake to work since we weren't able to invite many people from that circle and both workplaces gave us nice gifts.

I always suggest one for each guest for the big stuff and the other sweets go less. You could do cute to go boxes for leftovers.

We are doing one for each guest. My baker suggested, if you do full size cupcakes, 1 for each guest; if you do mini cupcakes - 2 for each guest.

We are also having some candy and strawberries if anyone wants those.

    I LOVE CUPCAKES

Thank you all! I'll definitely check with my baker before I order it all to see if she thinks I'm going overboard, but I did want to get an idea for my budget.

NO! We did cupcakes, mini cupcakes, cookies, and then an ice cream bar....I think we maybe went through 40 cupcakes for 80 people. So many sweets left over....

Thank you! We thought it was appropriate for many reasons, even though Grandma tried to cut the cake early because it said to "treat yourself" lol

I realize I never finished my thought...I would not do more than 1 cupcake a person with all the other dessert options. You could probably even do 75%.

I say no, you should talk to a baker about the percentages.

If you were just doing cupcakes i would say 1 per person but since you are doing other things as well i dont think that you need that many.

I am having mini cupcakes ( i have a guest list of about a hundred) and my Baker suggested 3 dozen min cupcakes( thats extra) she said they usually go first and then we have tartlets, 4" mini pies (that serve 2 people) and a two tier cake the serves 30 people.

I think you should try to find someone that can coordinate this with you.

I would normally say 1 per person with cupcakes, but with all those other things, I don't think you need to. If I have a choice of a cupcake or a brownie or a doughnut, I am not going for the cupcake. I would talk to the baker. See what they recommend AND what is the price difference between their recommended % and the whole count. If it were going to be a 20-30 dollar difference, I would just do them all. You can get Chinese food boxes or something like them for people to take leftovers.

Thankfully the prices are very reasonable, which is why we decided to go with the sweets table instead of just cupcakes. Obviously, some of the desserts are less expensive than the cupcakes, such as the donuts and cake truffles, but all in all it is much less than I was expecting to spend.

My only concern is that with so many people from out of town, they won't want to take the treats with them on the plane, but people will eat them as a midnight snack, right? Or breakfast the next day? I may be over thinking this (what else is new? lol)

I was planning on having boxes so that people can snack on it later at night. I am thinking that if we have an after party most of the sweets will be gone that night.

I'd go with one per person as well. I would be sad if I was at your wedding and the cupcakes ran out. I don't think you need more than that though. And see if your guests can take some extras home, or if you can take the extras. I'd be all about that. Smiley laugh @Tara...I could have solved your extra sweets problem very easily. Smiley winking

For those of you who did do a dessert table, about what percent do you think was left over? I'm trying to figure out just how much to have myself. I will do enough cake for each person but plan to scale back on the cookies we will have set out.
