Cupcake Brides, I need your help

Shileta, on March 30, 2012 at 3:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 30

Cupcake Brides, how many cupcakes are you did your order per person? What is a fair price to expect when getting quotes from bakers? In my area we have some pretty renowned bakeries (winners from Cupcake Wars, Georgetown Cupcake, etc.) and their prices are all over the board. Do you have any tips you would like to share?

I got 100 standard size cupcakes for 100 people (although I'm sure some will have more than one, and some will have none) along with a 6" round cake to cut into. Total cost $600.

My mom is doing the cupcakes and she's making about 100 for around 70 guests. I don't know about prices obviously cause I'm not paying for them.

I'm thinking that if it wasn't a cupcake, guests would get one slice of wedding cake normally. So, 1 cupcake per person shouldn't be a bad idea.

When we had our cake tasting we discussed both cupcakes or a tiered cake. Typically, you can undershoot a little bit with tiered cake because not everyone will have a slice. However they said that cupcakes they usually recommend the opposite and that is to get more because people have a different attitude towards cupcakes then they do sliced cake, especially if multiple flavors are involved.

Right now we have 8 dozen (96) cupcakes on our contract for an expected 75ish guests. I have a feeling our guest list will be a bit lower than that so we will probably take off a dozen. But we'll definitely have extras.

Did you guys also order boxes for your guests to take extras home? I'm wondering if it'll be overkill.

Are you doing favors? if yes, then just buy a few boxes.

Have you tried Cake Love? They are a little cheaper than Georgetown.

id do the math and say 1.3 per person just to be safe

We got 100 cup cakes and 2 small cakes, and are having 100 people. so pretty close to 1 each. I know alot of people won't eat them though. And we paid 2.25 per cupcake.

I'm doing cake boxes as my favor =). I like edible favors and plan to have a huge cake. Win, win. I probably wouldn't do the cupcakes as a favor per say, but have some boxes in case there are leftovers b/c then the caterer can box them up and leave them by the door and its one less thing that goes to waste post wedding.

@Blair, I definately wanted to do something edible for a favor. So it makes sense to do it with the cupcakes.

@Sami, I like your plan, if we do a candy bar or a desert bar it would be great to have the boxes for folks to take home what they wanted. Plus, with the ribbon wands, sparklers, and fans I want to do there's plenty of stuff for them to have.

I'm doing cupcakes as well and one store told me to order 1.5 cupcakes for every person. I am having 250 guests and am wondering how much you should expect to pay for each cupcake as well. Would you suggest mini cupcakes or regular cupcakes?

I think if you are having a Viennese table with other desserts, it would make a difference in your count.

I must be a total chub because I would eat 2 cupcakes at a wedding. Imho, they are just so much easier to eat. Would I eat 2 pieces of cake? No, I would eat one and take one home. ; )

We ordered from Flavor Cupcakery (in Belair- also a cupcake wars winner): 2.5 mini's per person, plus stand rental, setup, delivery, and 6" grroms cake. It came to $238 including tax.

Edit to add: we're having a small ceremony w/ 40 or fewer guests.

I did a mini cake at the top with 16 dozen mini cupcakes in 4 flavors on a cupcake tower. It's about 2 cup cakes per person and it cost me $328.00 from Dessert Affairs.

HI- I wish I had a cupcake wars winner near me! I ordered from a grocery store that does fresh bakery. I did a tasting of 12 kinds and they were really yummy cupcakes. I picked 4 flavors and got 50 of each. We have an expected 100 people so I did 2 per person. IDK at the cost people might have wanted the Peanut Butter and Jelly cupcake AND the HO-HO one... why not try both. This was $125 total with stand but no set up... thats okay though I have an on site planner for that part.

Shileta.... I used that word because that is what most people on WW know it to be. I actually call it a pastry table. : )

Kari....See, I would try each. But, I find the older I get, the more I enjoy the sweet things.
