Cupcake costs..Is this to much?

Chris & Jennifer, on December 30, 2010 at 6:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

So my FH and I went on our first tasting for our wedding cake today. We've decided on doing cupcakes with the top two layers being a 2 tier cake. The 2 tiers will have our personalized pattern on it which matches our invites and decor. 200 cupcakes @2.50 ea...she quoted $722 which also includes our pattern, set up and delivery, retainer fee. Is that to much, about right or we getting a deal? Thanks guys!

That sounds a but high to me but I guess at $2.50 a pop that sounds right.

I think 2.50 each is a great price for cupcakes... that's pretty average, i think

Do the cupcakes have fondant decorations or anything? If not, that's too high! If so, it's about right.

That is $3.61 a person. I think that is awesome.

I don't think that is pricey at all. We are paying $5.25 a person for a four tier carrot cake to be delivered. It will come on a gold foil covered cardboard and will have dots. I will do the fall decorations, and I bought the cake stand.

@analy, no fondant decor, but each cupcake is decorated to match the flavor, or we can have each one iced the same -no extra charge. Ex; some have sprinkles, or silver dot thingys, the apple crisp one has real apple rings on top and the "PB lovers" has a peanut butter cup candied topping etc..

Lol, seems about right. You aren't just including the cupcakes, you're also getting delivery, set-up, etc. So yeah, it's about right. We're doing the same, though only one top tier.

@ Missy, out of curiosity, how big is your top tier? The baker suggested we do either a 8 and 6 inch tier or 6 and 4 inch.

Our cupcakes are going to be 75 cents each, but we're going through the Jewel bakery (which totally kicks butt in our town). But that's just basic cupcakes with basic frosting, and we're doing our own DIY designs on them the day before. The price you listed doesn't sound too incredibly high if it's a really good place.

Hm I guess you live in a high price area for that sort of thing; I'm getting a two tier top and cupcakes for like 160 I think; I'm going with a lady that does it from scratch from her house (she got a knot pic tho!) but if i went with another bakery it was like 200 some..then again thats just for 75 cupcakes and the top feeds 30 people..but my lady for filled is like 10$ a dozen, non filled is 7$ per dozen..she does it more as a hobby/passion though, not for huge profit. includes delivery/consultation

Thanks everyone for your input. Sometimes you feel like you're in the dark when you're first starting out..especially when you really like something! Cost almost becomes secondary cause youre so excited. And Carol, youre # is exact when considering the total cost-so no worries!!! Smiley smile

I think that sounds about right. We are paying $2.25 for our cupcakes, 3 flavors with a top tier included.
