Cupcake count.

Yolanda, on October 27, 2019 at 10:52 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 28
We're going with cupcakes instead of a traditional cake for our wedding. Right now we are at 113 guests. Our baker says 100 will do, but I think we'll need more. My FH says 100 should be enough becayse we also get a dessert buffet with our package and not everyone will eat a cupcake, I'm thinking while that may be true, there will also be people who will eat 2 or more. I think maybe ordering at least 3 dz more won't hurt and we could have boxes to take away leftovers. Will that be too much?

With a dessert bar in addition, you definitely don’t need 2 cupcakes per person. 1 per person (113) would be fine. Honestly, I bet 100 would be ok because some guests won’t eat any dessert or choose something else off the dessert table but if you feel more comfortable with everyone having one if they want one, then 113 is the way to go.

Now that I’ve said all that... what will be provided in the dessert bar?

Our venue provided 3 dessert shots per person, so we provided only a one tier cake for cutting photos which probably only fed 1/3 of guests. The cake was eventually eaten but a ton of dessert shots leftover.

I think 100 should be fine. I personally am someone who rarely eats the desserts (cake) at formal events. I know there are others who are the same way. The likelihood of ALL your guests wanting one is slim.

In my mind, it’s better to have leftovers than not enough. Maybe a dozen or two more.

I am doing cupcakes as well. My best friend has a business and she told me if there are other desserts 1 cupcake per person. If you have nothing else it is 1.5 per person.

Since we had 🎂for almost 250 people, I ordered 🎂📦es for people to take 🍰 home with them.

They were so happy to take it off of our hands!!

There was STILL leftover 🎂. So, I put some in the freezer for 3 of my Bridal party members and an extra 2 pieces (those went to a DH’s co-worker that didn’t get 🍰 at the Reception).

I’d have 120, just to cover a few being possibly dropped. It is better to have TOO much of something instead of not enough. People will definitely talk about you if there’s not enough.

I would only order a dozen more. Everyone will not each one and if you have a dessert bar that will be plenty.

I personally love wedding cake, so I think there should always be enough for everyone. If you’re worried about leftover cupcakes, you can get boxes for people to bring them home in. We’re also doing cupcakes with one small cake for cutting. We are thinking we’ll do mini cupcakes instead of full sized cupcakes so we can have more flavors without too many cupcakes.

I definitely think 100 is enough but if there’s room in the budget then order the amount you want

Thanks. The dessert bar will have fruits, tarts, mini cakes and pastries, and assorted mousses.

So I would get 112 cupcakes, or 113. So that there is enough for every one person to have one. Knowing that not everyone will eat a cupcake. This would take care of the people that would also eat two.

I am having a baby shower and doing cupcakes and wondering the same thing! I know myself, I love good cupcakes over most desserts so I would eat more than one if there wasn’t a sign or looked like there was enough, also my husband is an eater but he would likely have a cupcake and whatever other desserts were offered so it depends on the people. Such a hard thing, I think asking the baker for their opinion is a good option. Happy planning!

I personally will likely have two or more cupcakes at my wedding lol. However, I also know not everyone likes them as much. Is there a way to do mini cupcakes? We’ll likely do some of those for people who don’t like them as much.

I would just get one more dozen. just in case. you want to have at least one person. plus if you have more desserts i don't think people will take 2 off the bat. then once everyone has gone people might get seconds. better to have extra than not enough!

We got a package that included our wedding cake(cupcakes), so they will be standard size. If we had stuck with a traditional cake, it would have been 3 tiers, but every wedding I have ever been to, the cake is wasted, and we've been to a ton, about 2 per ye since 2013. Lol.

I also think 100 is ok if you have other desserts. My cake was large enough for 210 servings but we had 250* guests. We had other desserts as well.

We had 2.5 full size cupcakes pp at our wedding and only went home with about 12. I would highly recommend at least one per person, even with a dessert bar.
