We're going with cupcakes instead of a traditional cake for our wedding. Right now we are at 113 guests. Our baker says 100 will do, but I think we'll need more. My FH says 100 should be enough becayse we also get a dessert buffet with our package and not everyone will eat a cupcake, I'm thinking...

My FH says 100 should be enough becayse we also get a dessert buffet with our package and not everyone will eat a cupcake, I'm thinking while that may be true, there will also be people who will eat 2 or more. I think maybe ordering at least 3 dz more won't hurt and we could have boxes to take away leftovers. Will that be too much?

While 100 might be enough, since you have other desserts, I'm the kind of person who lives by "better safe than sorry." So, my worry would be that everyone wants a cupcake, and 13 people are going to be without one!!

But I think with the additional desserts, you can be safe with 1 cupcake per person. So, 113 cupcakes, and whatever other desserts your venue provides with the "dessert table." That way, you may have leftovers, but nobody will be able to say you didn't have enough cupcakes. I'll happily bring home any leftover desserts! lol

I do agree with your baker that 100 will be more than enough, especially with a dessert bar. But I completely understand you wanting more than necessary. If you think people would actually take them, or you'd want the leftovers, then get a few more!! But I can promise you that 100 will be plenty!!!!

We just celebrated our wedding last Thursday. We had cupcakes and cake for 150 and only have 80 guests. We came home with less than a dozen cupcakes and 2 slices of cake. I would definitely recommend having more than running out.

I’m event planner and catering manager and absolutely too much!! By the time your guests get to dessert MOST will be too stuffed to even look at it considering drinks, salad, sides, bread, fillers, and then a dessert table?? Yes, maybe you will have a couple eaters who will eat two but the majority won’t even go near the cupcake tower. I get it though, people always over order and look at ALL the leftovers wasted. I’d suggest buying take-out containers so people can take food home so it’s not just all wasted.

No I don't think it'll be too much. Like you said, some people can take some home. And also who can just eat one cupcake? Lol

We did donut towers instead of traditional cake and ordered 2 per guests and had so many left over! We did also have a s'mores bar.

So we attended a wedding last week and they ran out of cake early. The only other dessert was cannolis. Good for me since I’m trying to watch every pound for my wedding but I heard comments especially from my fiancé so I wanted to share... they had about 250 guests.
