Cupcake Prices

Annie, on April 23, 2013 at 4:19 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11

My wedding is a little under a year away, so I am working on my budget. I already have a somewhat price in mind and have my big things booked. Venue, Photographer and I'm starting to work on a DJ. The venue supplies the cake but I thought it would be a nice touch to have some cupcakes too. Since my theme is "St' Patrick's Day" I was thinking about Irish Creme Peppermint Cupcakes and also Irish Coffee Cupcakes. The budget is starting to squeeze a little and before I start pricing with bakers I was wondering what the ballpark figure is and should I even pursue it. I'm in the Chicago area and looking to do about 150 cupcakes. Any clue?

I'm not in Chicago but when i went to bakeries they were pricing $1.25-$2.00 per cupcake. And we would need 300. So I think we are just gonna go cheap with walmart because they are 50 cents each.

I would suggest Costco or Sam's Club. I've never ordered, but I see a lot of posts where others have and found them to be just as good.

I have no idea. But the flavors you are considering are not your standard chocolate or white or whatnot, so a lot of the places that would be more of a bargain (grocery stores, Costco, etc) might not have them.

Thanks everyone. @Sara, you're right. I will probably have to check with a bakery.

Yeah - here in St. Louis they can run anywhere from $2-$6 ea. depending on what you want. If Chicago isn't at the very least comparible, you can count on it being more.

How "in Chicago" are you? Are you maybe willing to drive to a more rural surrounding area? I ask this because I am from St. Louis but getting married in my hometown which is in rural Missouri. My cupcakes for this wedding are about 75 cents to $1 each. If you can find a smaller town about 20-45 minutes away from you, they might still deliver and be able to give you a better price.

Specialty cupcakes here run $1.25 for a mini and $2.50 for a regular sized cupcake. If you aren't set on having those flavors (which do sound delicious!), you could get them for much less from Sam's, Costco, or BJ's.

I have a few Facebook yard sale sites in the area that I used to find me a baker! I just posted asking if anyone knew of someone who bakes. I ended up finding a lady who does it on the side at home. I've seen all of her cakes and tasted her cupcakes. I'm getting 150 cupcakes (4 different flavor varieties) and a small two tiered cake for the top of my stand for $125 with decorations on them. I was ecstatic to find such a good deal! And her cupcakes are delicious!

I'm n Peoria bout 3 hrs south of you and a standard cupcake is 1.55 and ones like the ones u want would be like $2.10. And that's at the go to bakery. I agree they're probably more up there and probably even more in some of the suburbs. Maybe Joliet or aurora? Good luck.

I am in New York and have a friend who is a baker, I believe her cupcakes start at 2.00 and go up obviously depending on the design and stuff. She made St. Patricks Day Cupcakes once there so cute!! Check them out

If you have any type of culinary school, or classes like that around you then you should check them out! My cousin had a friend who was in culinary school and had her make cupcakes for her shower, they were yummmmy! I'm personally having a friend of mine do 200 cupcakes for me, plus a small cake for cutting, with delivery and everything its $420. I'd say anything under $2.00 a cupcake is a steal for what you want.
