Cupcake Prices

Julie, on February 18, 2018 at 8:46 PM Posted in Planning 1 17

For those of you who are having cupcakes at your wedding, I'm curious how much they cost. I got a quote that I thought was very reasonable, $2 per cupcake. My FH thought that was way too expensive. I am a dessert girl, he is a salty food guy, so while I would pay even more for dessert, it's not something he would pay anything for as he wouldn't even buy one. He wanted me to go to WalMart and just put the cupcakes on the table in the boxes and leave it at that. I would like to have a cupcake tower with the small cutting cake on top and have that be our dessert for the wedding. I know it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but they tasted really good and I'm now waiting on a quote for just a cake to see if that will cost any less from the same baker. (FYI, He really liked how they tasted, too.)

We did talk about it and he knows it is important to me how everything looks at the wedding. We will be having 114 people at our wedding, which is March 10, 2018, so I really need to make a decision on this asap. If I did a dessert table, I think it would end up costing more than the cupcakes and I would still need a cake, too. 20 days and this will all be a happy memory. :-)

Thanks for listening.

Hello fellow march bride mine is the 24th. We are doing a small cake and cupcakes. We have 124 guests . we got our cake and 200 cupcakes for $135. Our cake is marble with pineapple filling and a butter cream frosting our small tier is chocolate raspberry with the same frosting. Our cupcakes are the chocolate raspberry. Strawberry with strawberry butter cream and red velvet with cream cheese butter cream. .. I looked at Walmart it would have been our choice if this person would have not been found. .

We are having a cupcake tower with a small cake as well. The cupcakes we are going with are $1 per cupcake. If we decide to have them filled it's $2 per.

I mean, how much would you expect to pay per cupcake if you were buying them individually at the bakery?

I think $2 per cupcake is reasonable. One baker I talked to quoted $5.50 per cupcake. I'm in central New York

I don't think that price is unusual at all. Perhaps go to a bakery in a super market or Costco or BJ's. I have done my sister's bridal shower and got my cupcakes from BJ's and they were just delicious. I got a cupcake tower from Amazon.com for about $17.00 and added all the mini cupcakes. It was perfect. For a wedding you will need to do this is a larger scale, but you may be able to get larger cupcakes from Costco or BJ's for about .99 cents to $1.50 and also get a custom tier for the top. Try this option. You will be surprised at the good quality.

I'm in Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. My local grocery store (Jewel) has cupcakes for $2.50 per cupcake from in their case (which is what I would consider comparable to the baker). If I bought their premade cupcakes, they are $.80 per cupcake. I like their cakes a lot. I get all our birthday cakes from there. I looked into wedding cakes there, but they only do a fake cake for cutting and then sheet cakes for the guests. The fake cake looks really fake, so I am not doing that.
The venue we're using has a preferred vendor list. I looked at the website for the bakery they recommend. Cupcakes there are $3.75 per cupcake. They only do cupcakes, nothing else. Another reason I was thinking this was a great price.
I am not a DIY girl, so I don't want to have to be responsible for anything other than getting myself and my kids to the wedding the day of. I don't want to worry about picking up cupcakes and bring them to the venue and setting them up. I am totally willing to pay for that the day of my wedding.
    Thanks everyone!

We have been quoted between $30-36 per dozen. We are going to do 3 or 4 flavors and purchase a large tier to make the cupcake dessert look more presentable and fancy. Don't know what we will do with this tier after the wedding, may try to sell it. Our 2 cupcake places have offered to rent us their tiers but none are big enough to hold 8 dozen cupcakes and I don't want to have multiple tiers.

I'm in MN and the cheapest quote I got from a bakery was $2.50/cupcake, however I am still planning to look into Hy-Vee or Sam's club too. We have a lot of dietary restrictions to work with which makes it more expensive of course.

Julie - $2 per cupcake is a great deal and please convince your FH that going to a Wal Mart or wherever and getting them and setting them out is a bad idea. LOL!

$2/cupcake is very reasonable. The bakeries here in Washington, DC charge $3/cupcake, but I found an up-and-coming baker that wants to start her own business. She only charged me $1.75/cupcake.

Bakery cupcakes > Walmart cupcakes. Times 1000.

And $2 is an awesome deal. My office used to get walmart or grocery store cupcakes for birthdays when we had a cheapskate boss and I wouldn't even eat it.
